What mufflers for 340

-
Borla ProXS 40659 or 40658 fit in the stock location and sound pretty bad-***. Don't balk at the price... these are 100% stainless steel, and as they say "you get what you pay for". I have em on my 340 with shorty headers, H-pipe, and 2.5" pipes. Fantastic.

I put a set of these in a 2” on my 65 Dart 273 sounds fantastic and different from all other old cars around my tiny town.

That's one beautiful car and sounds lovely! Literally love everything about it, especially the cleanness of the trim. I've been having a hell of a time to get my lower back window portion to sit flat, most likely due to the fact that the vinyl was put on without removing the window and it's probably a little warped from sitting in the trunk for the past 5 years (from PO).
Thanks,
I've owned this car since 1981. This is the second vinyl roof I had put on. The first one was put on by a body shop guy and he didn't use the correct glue so it started lifting on me within the first year. I put up with it for about 10 years before I had a shop that specialized in vinyl tops put it on. I suspect that if I had done it myself it would have been a disaster.

I'm partial to Hooker Aerochamber. Nice and deep. Just idling along down a back street it will set off car alarms occasionally :D

So I am going to give you three different examples of Flowmasters.
I have a Maxwedge with Flowmaster 40's that sounds open with the dumps closed that sounds wicked... It does have a cam to back it
up. It does drone slightly at certain RPM.
My friend has a L78 with stock exhaust manifolds and pipes... With 40's sounds rediculus!
At a car cruise I saw a C 3 with a a stock engine, manifold and exhaust with Flowmaster 40's that sounded very healthy.
So I just installed an Accurate Exhaust with stock manifolds and 40's on a 340... can't wait to start it.
It may not be the muffler of choice for racing but if you want to feel like you are driving a hotrod, value for pleasure can't be beat.
Flowmaster haters can knock it all they want, but no other muffler makes you feel like you are riding a Harley in a car!
Do you have a video of the installed system? Would love to hear how they sound.

Sound wise, I believe a 40 series Flowmasters takes the cake
Something about Flowmasters is just pure muscle car sound.
The problem with Flowmasters, is they don't flow as well with their chambered design.

Best flow would be a straight through design, like a Magnaflow or Dynomax.

My next car, I will try out some Magnaflow mufflers.

I can add to this

2.5in exhaust with flowmaster 40s. It's all super old and was a free spare set of exhausts/mufflera with the price of the car. Still needs to go to the muffler shop to be moved around, or maybe scrapped for a different exhaust eventually. We do love it though .

I got the same Dynomax mufflers that TTI puts on their kits in the hope that I wouldn't be doing something twice if I can afford their exhaust kit. I'm very happy with them. Mostly stock 340 right now so the cam isn't too lumpy but you can hear the motor at idle but going down the road it is very docile, hearing more from the headers I think. But when you step in it, it lets you know there is a good engine there. No drone at all.

Yes sir. She's the reason I think my wife doesn't throw a fit when new parts show up, I just tell my daughter it's a part for her purple car. My wife just smiles and shakes her head. The wife does say I need to get rid of some old parts I'm not using though.... Maybe one day.

If muffler CFM is your concern, a straight through perforated pipe muffler is where you should be looking. Pypes Race Pro, Magnaflow, and Dynomax Ultra Flo come to mind. The Dynomax Ultra Flo's will handle up to 2,000 HP. It's the muffler of choice for the F.A.S.T. Drag racers. Dynomax also has their Super Turbo muffler which will handle 700 HP and really control sound and drone. Any of the above straight-thru mufflers will give you decent sound levels at idle and cruising, but bark under throttle.

Thanks. Both my Dart and Mach 1 run Magnaflows. I like the sound.

Bullit mufflers with tail pipes and tips for the effect. Still went 10.68 @128. If you put all that money in a motor. You have to hear it
