If you've ever been there any time of year except late fall/winter you'd know that hanging out in an air-conditioned mall is the only thing for people to do. A LOT of wealthy people live in the Emirates... It's not just a few mega-rich oil "sheikhs" and a bunch of desert nomads.

Anyway, yeah, that is pretty sickening. I wonder what life is like for them; it must be sooo different from "normal" people's lives.
