What Rear end is this??

This is from a 73 slant 6 Duster. I am hoping I got lucky and have an 8 1/4?!?! I know there is a chart somewhere but I can't find it?!

Lol! It`s a good quick reference chart for the beginner Mopar enthusiast, I`m glad it`s getting good use. That`s why we`re all here, to spread the useful information around.
 
I think it looks like an 8 1/4. look at the bottom 3 bolts see how the left one isn't at a sharp angle down like it is on a 7 1/4. I could be wrong though but Tara agrees.
 
Here, it is... 12:30 A.M and I've become obsessed!

I went to look again... 10 bolts! could it be, a 73 slant 6 with a 8 1/4 rear end?!?! God, that would make life easier for me!
Could this possibly be a /6 Jackolope?

Someone could have destroyed the 7 1/4 and replaced it with an 8 1/4???

You'll have to take off the cover and count the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide it by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Or if you want a guesstimate mark the tire and the yoke and count how many revolutions the yoke makes to one revolution of the tire.
 
................Or when u have the cover off to check it out u can read the #s on the crown gear................kim...................
 
Is there an axle ID tag under one of those caked-on bolts? ;) If not, follow the info above or do the old spin the driveshaft one revolution and watch the amount of times the tire rotates.
 
I have the same rear end on a 74 Duster with a 318. The cover looks identical to yours. I had the same trouble trying to I.D. mine by using the chart. Round cover, no drain hole, 10 bolts......but mine had a tag from attatched to it stating it was a 2.71. So I too am glad to know I have an 8 1/4 rear end.
 
Now that you can see full rear,yeah it,s a 8 1/4.Sorry about mis-information,ut your first pic. wasn,t full size.OOPS!!!
 
that sure is an 8 1/4. is it a disc brake car? thats USUALLY the way they were, if it got discs, it got an 8 1/4. not always but is common.
 
Hold on here just a sec..... go back and look at the chart again .. and look at the pic no drain hole...all of but an 8 3/4 chrysler has an fill hole in the back of the the rear cover, that one does not.. does it have an drain or fill hole on the front side i think its on the right side.. if it does its an GM 10 bolt.. sorry....... i have built rear ends for some 20 y now. that looks like an 10 bolt from a GM..
 
myasylum: I think LADart is right. It looks more like a GM rear. If the fill plug is on the side or front it's not a Mopar rear. Like he said, only Mopar rear with the side fill hole is the 8 3/4. All others fill from rear cover.
 
Look at Pettybluedarts pict again. His 8.25 rear cover does not have a drain plug in it. Also look at where the axle housings fit into the center they look the same in both picts and match the chart.

Check the bolt pattern on the axles. Mopar and Ford and I think AMC are the only ones that used a 5 X 4.5" bolt pattern, GM used the 5 X 4.75" pattern.
