I am going to run 275/60R15 on the rear of my notch back and trying to decide what tire to run on the front. I like the wheels well to be filled up but still don't want to have any isses with clearance. I am thinking either 205/60R15 or 215/60R15. Would either of them work and/or fit??? They will be going on 5 1/2" steelies and I am converting over to bbp front dics setup and I also will have wheel well trim.

Thanks
Derrick

Both should work. The 205-60-15 @ 24.7" will be short compared to a stock tire.

The 215-60-15 @ 25.2" would be a little better (I think a bunch of guys run this size).

Another option may be a 205-65-15 @ 25.5". This size would give you the height and be a better fit for a 5.5" wheel over the 215-60-15.

I am ruuning BFG TA's on the back and it does not look like they sell a 205/65R15. They do have a 215/65/R15 that specs at 26" tall. Would I have enough room for this tire with no problems or safer to go with the 215/60R15 at 25.2" then???

Thanks
Derrick

I run 225/60-15's on a 15x7 rim with 4.25 BS onthe front of my 71 dart (same whel well in the front?) and they fit great.

All I will say is that we have had several members fold a front fender on a Barracuda and every time it was with a 26" (or taller) tire.

I would go with the 215-60-15 it will be a touch wide for your 5.5" wheels and BFG, like you said, makes one.

I was hoping to run the 205/75R14 in the front of my 69 Barracuda ont he stock 5.5 steel wheels. The tires measure 26.1". Sounds like you are recommending otherwise. How close will these be to the fender?

I run a 205/70/14 on the front of my 69 Dart and they work out great!

This is the thing I have seen here over the years…… When you get to 26", you may or may not hit. You can take 2, 69 Barracudas…. One may hit and the other may be fine…..

They will go on the car and look fine but in a turn and with the suspension in motion you may get close or catch the lower part of the front fender.

I tell people that if they run a tire that tall, understand the risks.

I tried 225/60-15's mounted on 15x7 wheels with 4.25" of backspacing on the front of my 68 Barracuda and they hit the front edge of the wheel well when the tire was turned in. I wound up going with a 215/60-15.

Prior to this tire and wheel swap I had 235/60-14's on 6" wide rims. These two tires are within a .1" or so in diameter and the 235/60-14 cleared with room to spare. The reason the 225/60-15 hit is the wider rim moves the tire further out so the outer edge swings a larger arc and would just hit. I also have 73+ disk brakes on the car that widen the tracks.

With drum brakes or 68 disk brakes or the narrower 5.5" rim I believe the 225/60-15 would clear just fine.

Here is a picture of my car before I took the 225's off

And here it is with 215/60's:
