What the heck am I doing wrong with this '74 Valiant hood?

Yep, tried that several times. Will not slide forward enough. “New” hinges on the way. Thanks, everyone! I’ll get this sorted.

Pull off the hood disconnect the springs so you can lower the hinges use a nut and bolt to attach a chain to the forward hole on the hinge use a Axel pulling slide hammer to pull the hinge forward. Do this to both sides slowly. Take a measurement before you pull so you can remeasure to get your 1/4 inch. Yes, they are bent. I have 40 years body and fender repair under my belt do this and you can fix the problem.

It looks to me like the hinge is bent, don’t see anything else which could cause this result as the hinge attachment to the column has no adjustment. I have seen this happen when a hood latch failed and wrapped the hood over the windshield, fyi. Good luck

Seen this plenty of times on all makes and models at my shop

Old hinges were definitely bent. Hood is on and does not hit the cowl.

There doesn’t seem to be any evidence of a collision in front. The hood bending back, or those hinges sticking maybe. Not sure.
