ok here's a real knee slapper. I can ask 10 people about a torque converter and ill get 10 different answers.
so, I have a 67 barracuda full tub car,w/cage, housing a 71 340 30 over, cam 508/292, rear 4.10, tire 29/18.50/15 weight of car approx. I'm guessing 3200 lbs. trans auto, carb 750, intake comes in at 1500-6500 heads 302 cast with port/polish and am/fm radio. question what would be a reasonable stall conver, for this set up. is that enough info.

You left out the most important things; how much cylinder pressure, and what is the ICA, and what application, lol.?
The less pressure you have, the less bottom end that monster has and the more stall you are gonna need

Contact one of the better known HIGH STALL BUILDERS. They'll ask you a ton of questions, and ask if you've got a dyno sheet on the engine. You'll get lots of companies mentioned on this board, and my suggestion is to contact them all. Find out what they recommend for YOUR PARTICULAR SETUP. Typically they will have a specification sheet on their website, fill it out honestly and go from there. Avoid going to re-sellers of high stalls as while they may have some knowledge of how a high stall converter might work for you, only a builder of converters has the knowledge and experience to get you the right converter. Ask about warranty, ask about quality of their product. The better the quality the higher the price. Price alone should not be your only guide when buying a high stall.
Something you've got to keep in mind is just because I have a car similar to yours and have a converter that really works well doesn't mean that it will work worth a damn in yours.
In my opinion avoid used converters. They're a welded together piece, and unless it's cut apart and inspected, you have no idea what condition it's in. A flashy paint job and a nicely polished hub mean nothing on a used unit. I've seen enough used converters cut open during my time in the industry, to see some of the junk trusting people have bought.
Just my 2cent worth.

YOur best bet would be to spend 99$ and a make a couple dyno pulls with the car before you order.

I'd guess if you call with your specs you'll get (and be happy with) a 9.5" - 10" vert with a 3500ish stall.

Just call a reputable company and honestly give them all the info you can.

U can’t go wrong with PTC, Ultimate, dynamic or Turbo Action. U have to be brutally honest with them what’s in ur car and how u use it and expect out of it. Kim

Has anyone had any experience with this converter...I am planning to use this unit.

Hays Twister 3/4 Race Torque Converter, Chrysler TF-727

For that kind of money have one built based on your engine/drivetrain setup. Call Dynamic Torque Converter you'll be happy you did! 65'

So he really doesn’t give a crap what we just answered to his question. He apparently doesnt care what we had to say. Don’t ask for advice if ur not gonna use it anyways. I’m done. Kim

10" Turbo Action 17805s medium, or even the standard loose version from Bob Mazzolini, $529 shipped, (as listed on his eBay listings). I'll venture to say that your specs are pretty common like most of our builds are vs really unique and therefor maybe requiring a high dollar overkill specd true custom build. Save that stuff for full time race setups. You call one of those builders you'll likely be looking at a $900 9.5" 3800+/- stall, 4200+/- flash stall converter. Stick with the better known off the shelf brands. You'll do just fine.

10/4 that I was looking towards the Hughes, Hays or turbo action unit you mentioned. I think any of those 3 will be fine. I was trying to get pointed in the right direction. Turbo action is down here in Florida. I don't plan on using any really high end units I think those are expensive enough, I believe ill go with the 10 in. turbo action unit ...thanks for the input.

The last custom convertor I bought from PTC was 450ish$$.

The last one I bought from dynamic was 700ish.

Were are talking hundreds here for a very critical part. Stop playing games and get a convertor made for you.
