What tranny?

How about posting a picture of the trans pan, that'll go a long way to identifying it. My guess is 904 if it's original, unless it's been changed the 727 SB trans didn't come out till way after the 318WB was caput!!! Geof
 
It looks like its a 727. I found a picture comparing pan seals for a 904 and 727. It looks like the 727 shape. It has a bump on the right side top and a corner rounded off on the bottom left. The 904 looks kinda square with the bottom right corner rounded off.

Now I know that my 727 will not work because its a push button tranny. So now Im looking to use my 904 that came on my 318la. The dip stick tube has been out of it for about 13 years and its filled with crap. The input shaft is rusty, Im not sure how bad it is. The fluid is nice and red. Thats about all I can think of now, what do you guys think, should I drip the pan? Also soon I hope to drop this engine in. I have never done this before so whats the steps you guys recommend.
