Hey guys and gals... I'm doing some work on one of my cars and need to clean up the exhaust manifolds...

I've seen a few threads on coatings people use for the exhaust manifolds and am wondering what works best... I'm looking for something that will look good and last a long time in that hot environment...

What have you used, how has it worked out, and pics if you have them....

I used Eastwood on a couple of projects probably 20 years or so ago.... It's a really thin material and I didn't have an oven to bake it in so that created some challenges but made it work. Atleast 4 years after doing the work it was still on the Manifolds of both cars but lost contact with them after that. If I had to paint manifolds again that's what I would use...

Off the shelf - rattle can I like VHT

another vote for Eastwood. Easy to install with a small foam brush while the manifolds are still on the motor. It does not wipe off like calyx does and it cures while you drive the car

What got me in trouble was I did them off the car and freshly blasted. I preheated them with a torch, applied the material, and put them in front of a kerosene flamethrower. It worked....

I used this vht high temp spray it works good coats good. I need to reapply it in a few spots its getting thin and starting to rust but it hasn't discolored or burnt off yet. Im happy with it.

I used VHT like numb nuts posted in post #7 on my slant manifold and it has yet to change color.

I bet VHT costs pennies on the dollar vs the other stuff mentioned. BY the way, factory painted them over spray with engine paint I believe. They weren't too particular!

Sounds to me like any one of these coatings will be a good choice, just picking the right color is all you need. I’m a fan of the Eastwood dark grey cast iron paint, even tho it has a shelf life, I’ve used an age old can with great results!

Rust:realcrazy:

VHT cerami-coat. Maybe it was the older name but it almost turns to glass when baked on. Have to chip it off.

I had my manifolds ceramic coated. I've been very pleased with how it holds up. Unfortunately, you would have to remove them for blasting and coating.

I used slip plate graphite in a spray can. You can get it at NAPA for about 12 bucks a can. Spray it on, let it dry, buff it out by hand with paper towels to a shine. Looks great and lasts forever. It will rub off on your hand if bump up against it but looks totally natural.

Same here great stuff. Also looks like the way the came from the factory not white or grey Karl.
