What's the cheapest MIG welder you can use for body panels?

Save your money until you can get a good welder. In the long run, you'll be glad you bought the best you could. And try your damndest to get one with infinite heat adjustment.

Listen to cuda67bnl he is right on target. The machines with 4 heat settings will give you problems when welding sheet metal. You need infinit adjusting on amperage (heat) and wire feed.

the cheap ones only use flux wire which doesn't leave as nice of a weld as one with gas. Important for outer body metal.

Canadian tire has cheap ones $180 name brand is Licoln. In Dec. I bought the gas Licoln adjustable heat and feed for$599 on sale(good welder)The smaller one should work for sheetmetal and cost might work for you also?Good Luck! These prices were Can.$$ so U.S$$ will be 2/3 of the price I paid.

Check craigslist for any Miller 135/140 or the Lincoln SP135+ (not the "T")

Both are infinite voltage adjustment.

If you can, step up to a 175/180 class machine I'd suggest you do it.

I wouldn't trade my MIller 175 for a dozen miller/lincoln 110 volt machines, well yeah I would. I'd sell them all for 250/ea and buy a nice 250 class or a Tig 250.
