When does money outweigh sentimental value? 1968 notchback build thread

Looks awesome! Benefit to the cooling lines? Cooler coolant running outside?

Cold coolant entering front and rear of the block, instead of just the front. This should, in theory, cool the block more efficiently. I'm also routing coolant from the rear of the intake up to the thermostat. That should stop boiling off at the rear of the heads.

Not my pic

Thanks for the input so far. I try and base decisions on facts and logic. But this ones different, I just don't want my emotions or the sentimental value to cloud my judgement.
that car is worth saving even without the sentiment value.its.not that bad. you can do it.try not to take it too seriously.and have some fun learning how to fix some Rusty car panels.no better place to.learn than on your own car.try fixing one panel at a time

I hear ya...Maybe I'll just take your advice and start plugging away at it?

Hey khuebner, you are subtle. I went back and looked at the dates.im new to the site and hadn't been following your progress.did you do the body work? You seem overwhelmed in 2015.car looks good in 2019.

You're fine man. I'm, just busting your chops. And you're correct, I was overwhelmed back then. It was a huge bummer when it came back from blasting. The metalwork, body and paint bill was more than I wanted to swallow. But if it wasn't for FABO and my wife's support, I would have parked it in bare metal in the back of the garage and let it rot.
With the exception of paint and body, I've done pretty much everything else.

It looks good to me, I am 57 year'sold i build houses for a living computer illiterate never been on a forum or even a computer very much.but I like reading about the Mopar cars and the other fabo people. My dad always said it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool.than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. I should read more before I respond.but it's all in fun so who really cares. I have been plugging on my barracuda since 1989. I bought a dart in feb18 nine months later I had taken the car apart, painted every piece.and put it back together and raced and built a 5000sq ft house at the same time. I was busy last year.i came to the site to.find a w2 head and did it arrived yesterday and should get another Monday. I will keep watching your build and try too keep up within the same year. good luck with finishing your car.going.to watch nhra again tomorrow.they are 45 minutes from my house this week.top fuel is awesome in person

Have fun tomorrow. I did my first pro nhra event last year. It really is a spectacle and should be attended by everyone at least once. Welcome to the forum.

Looks really nice, that is a nice car.not very many get that level of restoration. I have been working on the bolt holes of the rocker shafts.so I can slide the blocks off.your work looks more rewarding

Got back from vacation yesterday afternoon and have the rest of week off. So... We're doing stuff!! Got my dash bezel back from Glenn at gcartrim. Looks amazing, really nice work. I figured I'd get some gauges and switches in it.

Went and picked these up today and started mock up. They are a set of recaro SE seats from the late 80's early 90's I'm told. They have 8k miles on them. Foam and frames are in perfect shape. Don't care about the fabric as they are getting reskinned.

Here are some measurements from the stock seats. Bracket Width is the same but length is ~2" difference. The recaro mounting holes are shorter. Recaro seats are about 1.5-2" shorter overall on bottom foam. But overall they are within 1.5-2" of the factory seat measurements. Both the seat bottoms and seatbacks as far as width, height and length.

But with a little fab, I used the original mounting brackets and dropped them into the original holes. I made some 1"spacers on the drivers side but the seat sits a bit tall.

So, I remade the mounting tabs on the passenger side using 1/4" steel strap and dropped the seat an inch. I like it better. Disregard the headrests, I'm only going to run lowbacks.

Looks good, I remember the dash job in my car wasn't my favorite part of the job. I had a seat very similar to those in my barracuda in the 90s I drove it on the street then.they look good in your car. I'm waiting on the heads to be matched up with the porting.and the valves and springs installed for the dart.

Here are the actual tabs I made for the seat brackets.
