hello guys!
I´m going to buy a roller camshaft and lifter this winter. So which is the best brand on roller camshafts?`Is hughes engines good stuff?

Thanks!

im happy with my hughs cam its not a roller its a flat tapit cam seems to make good power and sounds great find out next week im taking her to the wheel dyno.

Any of the high end stuff is good. Lunati is tough to beat right now because they got the Ultradyne guru workin for um.

the best roller cam would be the one thats right for your combo.

when it comes to billet...they are all the same...

when it comes to roller lifters....they are not all equal.

Isky, comp, morrel...all have a high end line of roller lifters that offer direct oiling to the needle bearings that the big roller rolls on.

high end, meaning ....600-800+ dollars

fwiw ..if im not mistaken, lunati roller lifters are just re boxed Morrel's.

What are you going to use the motor for? Street or drag race only?

Ok, Just make sure that the roller cam you order has a cast iron gear on it instead of the billet roller cam.
Also are you going to use a Solid roller or a Hyd roller?
If using hyd roller (like I did in my 340 check these links out)

If using a solid roller (from what I've been told) doesn't have this issue.
I also recommend that you run some roller rockers and use a 1.6 ratio on them, that way you can run a smaller cam and get the same effects as a bigger one.
One last thing is if you are not running a late 80's/early 90's LA roller block, you're going to have to either get the lifter bore bushed and/or run a set of Hughes roller lifters (I have Hughes Hyd roller lifters in my 340, they are great quality) which have the oil ring located futher down and doesn't come out of the lifter bore.

I´m going to use an solid lifter I think. I´ve got roller rockers and they are 1,6 ratio. Do i have to grind in the block when using solid roller lifters? this problem with pushrod angle doesn´t sound nice, but if I use a solid lifter there will be no problem?? my engine block is from -75.

Thanks, Daniel

im running a solid roller and none of the ''oil rings'' are exposed, thats all block dependent...as in how they were machined from the factory cause not all yield this problem.

sometimes you have to grind here and there to clear the roller lifter link bars and there rivets, I had to clear for 3 cylinders at the back of the block.
