I have a 1972 Valiant sedan. It has a vinyl top, but the top goes down the a-pillars. I am not sure if this is correct. I have only seen a-bodies with vinyl tops that stop at the top of the a-pillar.

I’ve seen both. Some were factory and some were aftermarket or dealer installed. Back then people wanted a vinyl roof. It was quicker to add a roof to an existing car on the lot then order a different car for end of the month sales at the dealer. A piller vinyl to me is not as easy on the eyes as a roof line ending. But I am only one mans opinion.

I had a 74 Valiant that had the vinyl on the a-pillar

Changed Darts between the 71 and 72 model year, Later - all the way down.

It makes me think then that the transition was at the end of 72 and 73 got the full vinyl top down the a-pillars.
