Been looking into rear end options for my 70 dart and was wondering if anyone is running a B-body 8.75 under their 70 dart. I know that the spring perches need to be moved in a half in on either side, that is not a problem. I was wondering about what kind of wheels to run to make them fit in the smaller dart wheel wells. I am only looking to run stock steel or police style rims. I realize that I can order new wheel with the correct back spacing if I need to. Has anyone gotten any factory steel wheels to work with this setup. Who can you order custom steel wheels from if I have to. The reason I am looking at doing this type of conversion is because I have a B-body 8.75 that has less than 20000 miles on it with a sure grip and 3.23 gears. Thanks in advance for any knowledge sent my way.

I put one under a 72 back before I knew better. It was out of a (67?) Charger. Did not change spring perches, just wiggled it under there. Like I said, I was in HS.

I ran 205/71-14s on factory rims, but when loaded down to go to college, they rubbed the fender lip....so, my buddy found me some Mitsubishi (?) FWD wheels with loads more back space (or is it offset?). Ended up running 225/70-15s on those for a couple of years, cuz that is what I had. Looked good and ran all over the southern US from GA to West Texas.

I am! Factory wheels the tires will rub, at least on my 72 Dart they would. Wheel Vintiques fixed me up, looks stock, can't tell.

Some people prefer it because it moves the wheels out & fills the wheel wells better visually.

I sold a 8.75 from a 62 Dart. The guy that bought it, said he was going to put it in an A body.
He said the 62-65 8.75's were narrower than the later B bodies.

I put a '70 Challenger 8 3/4" sure grip in a '65 A-Body. Moved the spring perches, adjusted drive shaft length, and just flared the fender wells (could use any wheel/tire combo I wanted after that). I kind of liked the "wide track" look. Of course, it is easier to cut up a four door that a two door, so i am not recommended this for anyone else.

Put one under my 73 and used the early 2000's mustang bull it wheels 5.7 inch backspace IIRC. Use 245/45/17 rubber. I did move the perches. If I pull onto an uneven surface and the rear end twists, my tires rub the inner wheel lips just a scoche. Wheel vintiques also Stockton wheel can help. Member 72blunblu, ( I hope I got that right) knows this like the back of his hand. He helped me tremendously! Over all I'm glad I did. It is what exactly what I wanted.

What year was the 8.75 you used? I have not had a chance to measure mine and figure out if it is a 67 or older or 68 or newer. I saw the sticky thread that gave all of the 8.75 lengths, it was very helpful. I know there is a little over a half inch difference in length.

B body in Dart/Valiant works if you're planning to run modern wheels with alot of backspace. Stock type wheels you'll be rubbing the lip.

That rear works perfect in Duster/Demon/Dart Sport, as they have flared out quarter panels, and the rear moves the wheels out to be the same track width as front.

I'm sorry I do not know. I dug it out from under a 72 duster. 451 cuda is right, it looked at home under the duster.

What is the width of the Bullitt rims you are using?

Did you have to special order a specific back spacing? I looked on their website and everything looked like factory back spacing. I am debating whether to special order a set of steal rims and going with white lettered 15s with dog dish caps or going with the more modern look with the mustang Bullitt 17s.

What rim size and backspacing is working for you and what tire size?
5" BS on a 7" rim. 5 1/4" would have centered it perfectly. But this is in my case. Would need to carefully measure to see what you would need. Think a 8" with 5 3/4" BS would work well too. This is with a 65 B body rear.
Spent a little more for special order, turned out great.

Got a buddy that runs one under his 70 demon. Same thing, rubs if loaded down just a tad going in angles or bumps.

Not to hijack this but anyone have pictures or used one themselves on an early a body? I’ve got a housing from a 67 charger that I was going to have narrowed but it if fits it would save me some time.

Thanks

A 65-67 B axle will fit fine with no mods on a 67-69 Barracuda, a Duster, a Demon, or a Dart Sport.

On the rest, it will be tight and might require custom wheels.

68/69 is slightly wider. 71 and up is way wider.

The Mopar Dude steel wheels different width custom off set NO EXTRA CHARGE. Google Mopar Dude index on left side hit on wheels. Good Luck Webby.
