Who runs a six pack 340?

As for the bog, with todays gas, you may have to play around every season when you break your car out. If you park it for the winter the gas will dry up and clog passages. if its been 5 years you may need an accelerator pump. I wouldnt rule anything out with carb maintenance and todays gas. What Ive lkearned with my 750 edelbrock, besides the cleanout issues etc. is set it up as per instructions, dont turn screws till it sounds good. Mine at idle would choke you out with rich fumes I followed the lean best idle process and now the exhaust isnt as killer as it was idling..basically go over everything in the carb before changing the cam. Go form easy to difficlut in increments. I wouldnt want to change a cam just because. Like previously stated in the early 70s they would just swap the 6 pack manifold on a stock 340 and tune the carbs and go no cam swap.
