So..... We sold our durango (to expensive on gas and it was our only vehicle and we had to share it).

now we are looking for 2 vehicles, a truck for myself and a car for my wife. Thinking about a newer impala for my wife (good family car, good on gas, good reviews, the mechanical parts have been around for a long time and have lived up a good reputation and they have good ratings being that they are also used as police cruisers).....anyhow...we are pretty sure thats what we will be getting for her but thats not going to be for a couple of weeks from now before we start searching hard for one.

in the mean time we are looking for a truck for me, would prefer a short bed v8 4x4.

sorry for the venting LOL it just that it seems like when you are broke as a joke that good deals are popping up left and right.....and when you have cash to buy something there is nothing.

I have drove and drove and drove looking for something, checked the papers, checked the auto&rv mags, been to autotrader.com ,searched craigslist up and down within 150 mile radius.......nothing worth a damn.

anyhow, if anyone in or near lower MI has a truck for sale for $3,000.00 or under let me know HAHA

You can thank the Cash for Clunkers program for having a hard time finding a used car.

Good luck, DusterDude.
I have to echo the comments about the cash for clunker program. I was at a u-pull it junk yard when that program was active. It broke my heart to see all the good, serviceable cars, in great condition that were scrapped. They could have kept me in good, better than driver, cars for 20+ years.
You're in a buyers market, you'll find something soon.

you guys are right, I wasnt even thinking of that!

My wife and I and our little one were out earlier today driving looking for vehicles and didnt see barely anything at all and I was telling her " just a few years ago it seems like there was something on almost every street corner for sale, I just don't get it".

but after you guys mention it.....yeah ,ever since that stupid program there isnt much of anything out there.

I found one truck (ford) went and checked it out but it was in "so so" condition.....and I passed on it.

Im not going to settle for the first thing I find.... so I am trying to hold out for a good deal, just hoping that some vehicles will start popping up on the market soon so I have somewhat of a selection.

Used car market has gone up in value. Mainly do to credit issues and people probably trying lto ive with less, saving money instead of paying new car prices. My neighbor sells used cars and he can't find any cars to sell either. Jayson

Duster Dude, did you look on Craigslist as well as I found the truck I'm driving there for 2200 which was a score for a clean rust free 90. I find Craigslist to be awesome when wanting whatever it is

I think your mistake is trying to find a 4x4 truck in one of the worst winters in a few years. Keep looking though there has to be something out there.

also, you like millions of others, usually buy used cars/trucks with income tax return, and all the busnisess mark the prices up and still get sold.

look. i bought that 2006 dodge stratus from member here, within a week, the engine blew in it. i just got done putting an engine in it, and as soon as i put it out on the main street here for sale little bit ago, it sold for 3,800.00 the same day.
the price was not even negotiated. i put it out there hight, but would of took 2,800.00 for it. people that get nice amounts back, think it is like a free check, and spend stupidly

Never buy a 4wd vehicle in the middle of the winter. But convertibles and motorcycles in the winter and 4x4s in the summer.

yup , I mentioned in the first post of this thread that I checked craigslist...nothing YET

your right.....it just so happened to fall that I am looking for a truck in all this snow when everyone else who is in the market for a vehicle is looking for the same thing as me.....sucks, but I am sure I will find something eventually.

NO this is not tax return money ,it is money I made from selling a vehicle.....not being spent "stupidly" at all. Not going to the casino, not buying drugs or cigarettes or booze and anything of that nature ......getting a 4x4 truck for myself . I sold my truck awhile back to get my wife a vehicle. which sucked gas and was starting to show its age. She is buying a new family car and I am getting myself another truck because all to often I find myself needing a truck bed or if I need to haul a trailer or a camper or something I will have no problem doing so. Plus I want a 4x4 as a back up vehicle incase (like this winter) snow comes down so much...so that I can let my wife use my truck if need be.

trust me, I know what you mean and you are right,I just happened to get stuck with getting something else at this time of year and I am hoping that something along the lines of what I am looking for comes along. I have honestly owned over 160 vehicles, so I am very familiar with buying/selling/trading in the used car market (although the last year or 2 I have stopped swapping/trading/buying/selling nearly as much because I have put my money and attention into the duster instead of elsewhere as I use too)and you are right....best time to buy a truck is summer, best time to buy a hotrod/motorcycle/boat is winter, best time to sell a truck/plow/snow mobile is october and november and so on.

thanks for the input guys, some of you make some good points. And yes I am trying to get the wrong vehicle in the wrong market BUT I have done it before. Might take some searching but I am hoping I find something sooner than later.

no, no, no, i was not implying that to you. sorry if you took it that way.lol

i was just stating that is why you cannot find one cheap right now, cause of all the other peoples stupidity.

Ok, no offense taken lol  I thought you were directing that and me a little bit so I was thinking "wait a minute here" lol

but yeah I know what you mean.

Tax time everyone is getting money back and buying vehicles, winter time with lots of snow and everyone wants a 4x4 ....odds are stacked lol.

but for now anyways I will keep tabs on craigslist like a hawk and hope to catch a good deal as soon as it pops up

I think used car prices are up right now lots of people not wanting to jump into new car notes right now. Jobs are not easy to find and I know alot of folks that lived on two incomes that one lost his or her job. Someone out there is selling a car to get out from under payments just keep looking.

I was (kind of) in the same boat last year, but I was looking for more of a project. project cars didn't get hit as hard by cash for clunkers, since the age and condition I was looking for had not been tagged and insured, but it did drive the prices up. It took about 6 months longer than I expected, but, yeah, Craigslist came through for me.

Like you said, don't jump in the first one, but you'd better jump on the first GOOD one, cause lots of other folks are looking for the same deals!

Good Luck!
