Why...

I don't know...I used a EZ wire in my street rod project and worked great.....never used a painless so I cant compare

I used a painless kit.

Use all of their kit and parts or it isn't painless.....

How much time do you have? I rewired mine myself. I bought about 1600 feet of #16 wire in multiple colors, got a good schmatic (with only a couple errors) and rewired it myself. I was also able to add my own modifications as I went.
I did mine because I was in no rush and did not want a premanufactured harness.

Plus I saved a boatload of money doing it mayself

Ditto. I custom-wired the under-hood of 2 of my 3 1960's Mopars. I used a relay/fuse box from a Jeep. Since most wires from the cabin now simply turn on relays, I used mostly 20 awg colored ribbon cable from bulkhead to relay box. Keeps the bulkhead clean, and no clutter on the firewall (no horn or starter relay, no ballast resistor). I will do my C-body next since the factory under-hood wires are also brittle. In contrast, the under-dash wires were fine in all and just needed repairs to the gomer fixes.
