I recently pulled the original motor out of my 1966 Barracuda, and it does have the adjustable rockers. My question is, will those fit a 318 with 360 heads? And if they do, is it something I should consider? What is the advantages to adjustable rockers?

Am a newbie to all this, trying to learn as much as I can and do what is best.

Thanks,

John

The 273 rockers should fit the 360 head, as long as it isn't a Magnum head. (I'm pretty sure Magnum stuff is different.) You'll need special pushrods to use an adjustable valvetrain with the factory hydraulic lifters, but they are readily available from most performance outlets. The advantage is that you can get a finer adjustment of your valvetrain as compared to using non-adjustable rockers. You can adjust each one individually, & don't have to worry about a stack up of factory tolerances, combined with machine work, etc. causing adjustment problems. Theoretically, with the valves properly adjusted you should be able to get a higher rpm from your engine without having the lifters pump up.

Of course, all this is what I remember from over 25 year ago when I used to do this stuff all of the time, but I think It's still correct!

:burnout:

You have to be careful with oiling on these. The 273's do not have the oiling groove cut into the rocker like the moper performance units do. I had some on a 340 and I did some damage due to minimal oiling. i had shafts with the banana grooves and this was not enough.

I am begining to think that this is not the way to go. I am not building a super engine here, just a decent 318 .40 with cam, headers and with the 360 heads. I think I will go with the 360 rocker arms and if the desire hits me later, I'll get the proper adjustable rockers.

Thanks for the input.
