I have some, but absolutely no clue what year they are and I don't know how to tell.

Why not bring it to a machine shop for the cam bearings, and a check of the block. I do all my own work, but I know I am not a machinist and shops aren't that expensive.
Cam bearings and freeze plugs don't require machine shop experience and are easily installed by the novice with the correct tools. My wife can even do it and has before.
