Something to think about is making the original column into a double d shape. This will be much more secure than any smooth bore coupler. Easy to do with a grinder or if you have access to mill to be more precise.
I did it with an early bronco that I converted to power steering. Works perfectly without any slop and no worry's about steering loss.
