my friend is going to be selling his 340 motor to me becasue he is getting a 360 for his scamp and i was wondering if the "302" heads will work good on the 340 just wondering because i have the 302 heads already so let me know. ps
i was planing on using 360 valves on the 302 heads 1.88 and 2.02 i think they were

360 intake valve is a 1.88, the 2.02 is a 340 valve, the head would need a full porting and window opening up for use on the 340 effectivly.
You could contact BJR here or one of the other head porters here on the site. I know theres about 5 or more pro porters here.

Combo dependent, you may want to start with a regular 360 (1,88 valve) head rather than a 302. This is an area where you must know everything else about your engine and cars combo before you do the work. No guessing and/or changing the combo later (And asking "Will it work" )
Know the specs and the intended use of your car and then things cn roll along well.

Hmm Then I Guess Ill Jsut Stay With The 318 Unless The Motor He Is Giving Me Is A Running One

I like the 360's extra torque. It's a get up and go feeling "NOW!" thing over the 318 which is...OK, I'm going....how fast again...OK, getting there...there, I made it for ya.

The 302's will raise the compression on the 340 because of the small chambers. This would be a good thing on a '72-'73 low-comp 340 but a bad thing on the high-comp 340, it would end up at or over 11:1

He he he. And the narrow ports will choke it before long.

Whats the problem with the heads that are on the 340 now? They are most likely 915s, which are a very good (if not the best) head for the 340. They will already have 1.88/1.60 or 2.02/1.60 valves already, plus larger runners for more volume flow. Much better for the 340 than the 302s, in my opinion, Mike

kool im jsut deciding if i should go 340 but i guess the price and what comes with the motor will make me decide i mean hes gonna give me some headers too i just need to return the ones i just bought now. o well

You should check with your friend on what heads are presently on the motor. You can easily sell the 302 heads and put money towards the 340. I have a 318 that I'm installing 302s on, along with some other work and parts, but make no mistake about it, if a good running 340 were available to me for a very good price I'd jump on it in a NYC minute. JMO, Mike

i personaly wouldnt use the 302 heads on a 340 but thats just me and i like 340´s that is alowed to do what they do best, wish is turning highrpm...... if the price is good i would grab that 340 before your friend has a chance to change his mind...
