Went to look at a car today. Ad says its a 340 car, VIN says its a 318, no fender tag. Was blue, now black. Interior needs work. Runs well (but needs to be timed and rewired). Very solid for around here. Quarters have been replaced, trunk extensions underneath have rusted some.

The seats are early style also, look to be 67 style?

I know about the mismatch of items...just wondering what the overall opinion on the value is. $4K, $6K, etc...

With the limited information given plus the lack of needed pictures of the engine and the rust mentioned I couldn't give an accurate opinion of what the car is worth. To me all the wrong parts would seriously cut the value but I like correct body parts on my cars. The 69 correct grilles are pricey to put it mildly. With the economy there are plenty of cars hitting the market but you may have to check out a bunch to find the jewel that won't break the bank getting it done.

I guess for me the questions
1) IS there a 340 in the car? what year and what heads. pure value standpoint as 340's are not cheap or plentiful.
2) Does it have an 8 3/4 rear?
3) It is black - look at it from different angles is it straight and worthy of black?Poor body work will really stand out?

They are doing repop grilles for 69 now so I think the pricing will adjust to somewhat-affordable and available in the future for drivers. If the body is good to excellent consider what it would cost you to duplicate if you can not do yourself. bodywork/ paint can run into the thousands between 3 to 10 probably on average depending on what your starting with. then factor in time 6 months to a year without a car.
most importantly are you buying to flip or finish and keep?
WIW - it is worth what your willing to pay for it. consider the factors, also look at fleabay etc and see what they are selling for....

+ Wood grain wheel wrapped (restorable?), shoulder belts - 68 hood (340 inserts) header and grilles are worth something, and rear body panel good? bumpers look good.. window reveal moldings.....

- column shift. antenna looks funky, 67 buckets .

there is one here for 11.5 that isn't budging for over a year. if it's right and not a rust bucket I would pay 6.

In honesty those pics tell very little about what its worth. But my personal experience tells me that I can't sell an original 68 340 gts Dart for $4500 that has new floors all done with a rebuilt non #s 340 and the correct parts for the car.
