Using the search function I came across this:

WIX oil filter

A google search:

Has anybody used this shorter filter? I assume since there is a smaller filtering area the filter would need to be changed more often.

Pros & Cons?

I ran the short mopar filters on my 440/505 till I changed the fan shroud around some . Yes I did change them more often .

That filter is extra short compared to the shorter of the two OEM style. Use a thin oil or you will starve the motor at upper RPM's. Less filter hinders Flow through characteristics. Just a thought. I didn't have room so I went to a remote filter. You just haveto crank the motor with coil turned off until you see the mechanical gauge move.

someone contact wix and ask for the flow of the several filters with that thread and gasket
I would think the flow wold be ok or it would pop th bypass
now filter capacity is a conceern
I run dual x long chevy truck filters on my boat for that reason and a water cooled oil cooler under the adapter

Here ya go with some filter data for this small filter:
  • Bypass valve setting 8-11 psi, just like the large 51515
  • Max flow rates 7-9 gpm, just like the large 51515
  • Same micron rating for both.
  • But no data on the pressure drop with a given flow rate
The applications for this shorty filter are all for much smaller engines, overseas trucks with smaller diesels, and tractors. So looks like it gets used for lower oil flow applications than a revving SBM or BBM.

I put remote filter mounts on just about everything... more oil in the system, oil cooling takes place, always a big filter can be used, etc. Make sure the lines and adapters are a full 1/2" ID all along the way and shield the lines from exhaust heat.

FWIW... I don't see oil pressure delays.. but I keep the remote filter down low.... that might make a difference.

Flow is the same
less capacity
cost or fitment?
Yes same rated flow, but no info on flow vs pressure drop; the small one could have 2 or 3 times the pressure drop at a given GPM. One would need to take the filters apart and see what the media looks like, number of pleats, etc. Or put them on one at a time, get the oil temps to the same level each time, and have a good oil pressure gauge to see if there was significant difference when revved up.

I don't understand why you would want a SMALLER filter. I recently bought a 5.3 GMC. Damn filter is absolutely pitiful, and there's no room for anything larger diameter. Longer, maybe.

This the filter that I use on my mostly stock 340. The advantage is I use a billet filter plate
on the block and no angle adapter. And it just clears the 1969 340 exhaust manifolds.
Yea I change it more often, about every 3 years, and that's around 1000 miles.
I use 10w30 synthetic oil in the engine and the engine hardly ever sees anything north of 5000 rpm.
The oil pressure has always been good so I never worried about it.

The combined flow area of the holes in the stock plate is much larger than the single hole in the center. So the billet plate is not really any advantage. But your synthetic is your big advantage!

and with the new oils I'd switch to 0w---
no need for 5w or 10 w any more
The 0w -40 for the new vet is super oil DEXOS II spec
(not Dexos I version II)
in MObil one it is ESP
same oil meets both the new VW 508 in 0w 20 and 507 diesel spec in 0w-30
now try and find it or mail order

A friend ran those on his old Willys Jeep with a 340 in it for several years with no issues. He ran them for header clearance. He did change oil regularly though, but no problem even revving into the higher 6k area.
