Most of the faulty airbag inflators were not made in Japan. They were made at Takata's plant in Mexico, which is controlled by Takata's US-based North American subsidiary. See for yourself, but by all means don't let that inconvenient fact get in the way of your racist screed against Japan and the Japanese.

Please get a clue.."pickle"...

"Jap crap"...that's about the most laughable term I've read in the last decade.

Let me share some factual information, not opinion. For the last 14 years, I've driven an average of 40-50,000 a year for work. That's somewhere over 560,000 miles on a variety of domestic and foreign vehicles. Chevy trucks, Buick's, Ford Taurus, Toyota's, Nissan/Infiniti's, Honda's, Suzuki's, a couple Volvo's, a Volkswagen Jetta, and they had anywhere from 70,000 miles to over 200,000.
Here's the condensed summation:

The Domestic vehicles never really broke broke down, but the GM vehicles nickel and dimed me constantly. The '93 Silverado ate a heater core, radiator, alternator, 2 thermostats, a fuel pump, a wiper motor and the A/C had to be charged every year. It finally chewed up the trans at 170K and I sold it. The others('99 Regal and an '02 Bonneville) always had climate control problems, wheel bearings, and the QC on the Buick's interior was the worst I've seen. The "proudly made in Canada" sticker even had incorrect grammar on it.

I drove 2 different Ford Taurus and never had issues. The newest one got totalled by a woman driver, or I'd probably still have it.
The Volvo's were also money pits. Nothing ever expensive, but the AC never kept working on any of them and I soon learned why FCPGroton stays in business.
Now to the "jap crap":
Between an '03 Corolla, '96, '00 and '05 Accord, '99(x2)and '00 Mazda Protege's, and '98 and '00, I've never done anything more than tires, a couple sets of brakes, the occasional bulb, 2 wheel bearings, a repaired electric antenna, and maybe 2 valve cover gaskets and 2 timing belt jobs. All of those I just got bored with and wanted something else. The WORST one of the jap crap bunch was the last Protege, the '00. That was $800, I drove it a year with it burning oil, made .32 a mile for the 40K I put on it and sold it for $500. The silly thing is STILL running.

I could go on and on, but they don't break. Jap crap? LOL..that's code for "I'm afraid to drive one because I know I'll either like it too much or get bored from nothing to work on". That '99 Regal GS was the most overhyped, poorly constructed, cheap-*** car I've ever had. And yes, the taillights were made in Korea. TODAY's American cars are a different story, but the 2000's stuff...yuck.

Back to the filters though, I buy Made in Germany Mann filters for the '88 Volvo 760, and Purolator for the Infiniti and the old cars. I simply don't wish to support the Chinese economy.

Japanese products started out as a copy of American products. If they are better quality now, it is because we have slipped. China tries to copy things, but their quality is horrible soo their stuff doesn't work, and is a total waste of $$$ 88 % of the time. did you know Japan made a Motorcycle in the 30s or 40s that they used Harley Davidson's blueprints to build it? A direct copy is how japan started out. Pretty much of the last 15 years, American cars have been copying them on interior and exterior design. the 4 way flasher button in the middle of the dash came from foreign cars.

Did you just call him a pickle? Wtf?

Don't bother he's just finding an excuse to start a fight... he feeds off anger and stupid arguments that never go anywhere.

Anyway this thread was about oil filters, lately I've been using the Mopar brand filters (MO-090) since they're cheap and I can get them anywhere, aren't those rebranded Wix units?

This sucks are there any off-the-shelf filters that are good besides the seemingly gold-plated Bosch ones that cost as much as a 5-quart jug of oil?

the nascar boys are reportedly using wix and Purolator filters, last I heard. I`ve been using the short mopar filters on my barracuda since there isn`t room for a long type filter,(custom fan shroud), been using the long one on my 02 ram 4 door, that just turned 170,00. never done anything to it except a rad. and front wheel bearings. it even still has the original brakes on it! and yes I`ve towed the car trailer a fair amount w/ it, before putting 1 axle brakes on the trailer.

Does anyone know the Fleetguard part number for the short type Chrysler oil filter? Fleetguard LF3487 oil filter can work on my Slant, but not enough room on my big block.

A long, long time ago (okeh, it was a little over three decades ago) a rock band called Starship recorded a song called "We Built This City". Some of you might remember it. Some of you might not, even if you were there; it sounded a lot like the rest of the top-40 stuff coming out of radios and tape decks (we had those then) at that time. It contains the line (click for video) "Someone's always playing corporation games…who cares, they're always changing corporation names". Yup, that's true. Below just arrived in this week's "Automotive News". I don't take it as a bad sign; Mann are generally known for good quality filters, though I'm sure they're equally capable of making junk if someone orders enough of it.

Mann + Hummel have finalised their acquisition of Affinia's global filtration operations, which manufacture the Wix and Filtron brand of filters.

"The addition of the Wix and Filtron brands to Mann + Hummel strengthens our global presence with an expanded product portfolio and access to new markets," said Mann + Weber president and CEO, Alfred Weber.

"Our joint 150 years of experience, complementary competencies, and 20,000 employees worldwide ensure we will continue to grow and serve our customers with the best in filtration solutions."

The two companies will bring together on- and off-road and industrial filtration solutions. Affinia's filtration business specialises in the oil, fuel, hydraulic, and coolant filter aftermarket.

Mann + Hummel will lead the Group as a new business unit based in North Carolina in the US.

Keith Wilson, previously CEO and president of Affinia, will retain his executive function as president and CEO of Mann Filtration Technology and report to Manfred Wolf, supervisory board chairman of the acquired company.

the sad part is that those "made in USA" products are not actually made in the USA .... just shipped in bulk from china and packaged in the USA. Which make up 50% of the product which makes it classified as "Made in the USA"

I know that happens in Canada so i would not be surprised if it happens in the USA

This is unfortunately so true. From my Point of view with "made in Germany" products...

One of the better and more current comaprisons of oil filter filtration, flow, and build. (This is at YB; not for the easily offended or every workplace in case you didn't know)
