I wasn't sure which category to post this question so I put it here.

I have an older set of Cal Custom finned aluminum valve covers that I am going to paint with black wrinkle finish. I've had them bead blasted and was wondering what other prep I need to do before applying the wrinkle finish. I also would like to know if I need to prime them before the wrinkle finish, and if so, what type of primer to use.

Thanks!

My buddy used to build rifles, he painted quite a few with wrinkle paint. He said the trick to get a good wrinkle was to preheat the stock. He had a bbq rotisserie set up to hold the stock in front of a heater. Then wrinkle painted and kept in front of the heater. I dont know if you need to prime for metal or not.

Just shoot them and set them in the hot Texas sun

Actually, I did just that when I took my Sublime 70 340 4 speed Duster to the Nats in Indy. I reshot the breather right there in the car corral. Just set it in the sun. Looked GREAT

when I worked at an alternator shop thats what we'd do throw em in the oven at like 200 degrees- or just leave em in the sun in the afternoon (Phoenix). Now i just powder coat everything way mor predictable and consistent
