So my alternator's voltage output was low. So, I went to my trusted local auto parts store, and got a rebuilt untit. Well, the dang thing doesn't fit. I had to shorten the long spacer that goes between the mounting ears, because the dimensions were different than the stock alternator. I got it mounted up, and it sits crooked. When I started the car up, it just smoked the new fan belt, as the alternator pulley was at too extreme an angle to rotate freely.

So, my core is gone, as I waited too long to install the alternator, but they will take the new one back in exchange. What is the correct alternator, for my 1971 Valiant, 318 V8, no A/C. I would like a higher amp output, but don't require it.

For 60 AMP Alternator try:
w/Single Pulley Bosch AL504X
w/ Double Pulley Bosch AL502X
That should get you some numbers to cross reference to. Be aware there were also 45 Amp and 50 Amp alternators also listed.
