thanks for all the quick responses...i have bigger problems now, looks like a small amount of oil in radiator, and alot of white smoke...do we agree blown head gasket, I am also concerned that there is no oil dribbling on the top end to the rockers and such....rocker arm is on correctly with flat spot front and top. this is a shame...only ran it for 10 minutes or so, did not smoke at initial start up. Going to do compression check in a bit...any thoughts?

Stoopid moment.

Are you talking about the shaft?

The driver side shaft should be notch forward and DOWN, the passenger side should be notch to the rear and DOWN.

a slant with a drivers and a passengers side???

A compressoin check may or may not show a small head gasket leak to the water jacket but there is a good chance it will if you are smoking like that.....well, if your engine is smoking like that. It just may not show you anything conclusive. Does the white smoke smell like oil or like antifrezze or like nothing? It could also be a crack in a head or block that opens up when the engine heats up; which coudl explain why it ran OK for 10 minutes. Is this a rebuild?

I have no good info to add about the lack of oiling.

Bring it back to whomever rebuilt it now.

Unless this is a hydraulic cam motor youve probably already wiped the cam and a compression test is only gonna make matters worse.

Agree with /Matt here. A leakdown test might be safer than a compression test, also more accurate.
