I don't know who this guy is, lives in Montana and obviously has compiled a shipload of dough

ONE of ONE:

This thing is basically an updated Spitfire built for British Navy use, with a huge Rolls Griffin engine and contra props. I guess you understand the shutter speed of the camera is giving you the wrong view of the props

More of the collection. Not sure of the music.

I love the sound of those Merlin engines! Especially when that are going overhead and going away. And IIRC the music is one of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos!

You mean counter rotating prop's? I gotta tell ya know, that was one hell of an idea done to the aeroplanes back in the day. Brilliant!

Here is a good look at another without a cowl and the props exposed.

That sure is a rare bird. I'm kinda partial to big radial engines, especially corncobs.

Yup. When you say "radial", "turbo compound", or "4 row" you are talking BIG stuff

Them v12s sound like glorified tractor engines on the ground, they only get a little better in the air. Radials are music to my ears.

Oh I love the sound of V12s AND radials. One reason I'm no longer excited about unlimited hydros--if I want to hear a Kirby running, I can just go to the closet

This is what they did with them ( areo V12's ) back in the day...............

Art Arfons also ran an Allison powered dragster back in the day but at least he was smart enough to sit in front of the engine insted of behind it or along side of it.

was wondering what would happen if a plane engine was put into a four wheeled car....

you happen to know what they ran for 1/4 mile?

I also remember some article "back then" somebody put a V12 under (I think all steel) 64-65 Malibu body

The Dart wagon went 152 mph
The 57 Plymouth went 147 mph
No mention of ET though.

E.J. Potter looks like a Mopar man. That guy was/is amazing(I think he's still alive!?). Maybe the first v-8 motorcycle, direct drive of course. His book would be a good read me thinks.

They use V12 and radials in tractor pulls. Cool stuff.

Those rolls royce engines sound like thier idling, even when thier not!

Rolls Royce licensed Packard to build them back in the war because Packard was the only manufacturer that Rolls would have to build "their" engines. Packard was top of the heap back then in manufacturing. Chrysler built an inverted V Motor (XIV-2220) that powered a modded XP47H to over 505mph level flight, and this was back in 45! DOA Curtiss P-60 had same prop design.

Actually there's been talk that Packard built Rolls engines better than Rolls did. I don't know whether Packard was the "top of the heap" or not. When the B-29 engine production got underway, Chrysler made a hell of a lot of 'em. And Ford made a LOT of aircraft, as well as GM

-----------------and the thing you left out is that engine was the very first beginnings of the Chrysler hemi
