Your first car.

That would of been 1978. The duster was 6 years old with 48,000 miles on the 340. My neighbor was at Skyline college and had shop class. He rebuilt the 340 and got a A in shop class. Sold the Duster to me after.

Just curious..... Look at the price and I suspect the condition was top shelf also. Rebuilding the motor was interesting however for some car guys it just needed to be done whether it really needed to be done or not lol.....

Mine was a grayish blue (not as blue as the picture) and rust '71 AMC Gremlin. It had a 232 straight 6, auto trans and manual everything else. I had no say in what vehicle my first car would be. My dad saw it for sale and decided that it was the one for me. He told me "you'll drive it and you'll like it". He was 1/2 right, "I drove it".

Just about like this '66. Dad had baby moons on it, I swapped those out for US Slots. Factory 4 spd and 271 horse 289. Father had busted a timing chain in it when it was his daily and bent some valves. We repaired it. Shortly after I got to working and makin' money he came home one Friday night "We're pulling the motor out of the Ranchero tomorrow" he says. "It runs fine" I says. He took it to the engine shop that his employer owned which did the company vehicles, pickups to dozers and scrapers. Came back with 11-1s and a very lumpy Crower Cam :D. Had to go to the illicit street events with a full tank of gas to have any hope of getting the G60s to bite.

1974 4 door Dart, 318, auto, ps, pb, ac.
In 1984, old Mr Tarbuttton came into the shop dad worked at. Wanted him to look at why his old dart wasn't running well and to see "what all it needed". 318, auto, ps, pb, ac. Dad told him a typical tune up, front tires, and the intake needed to come off to chisel out the carbon build up in the exhaust cross over thru the I take. Explained that's why the choke never opens in the cold weather. Also suggested a rebuild of the carb. Old guy said ok, thanks, I'll let you know later this week when I'll bring it back. Next day it came in on the hook. Tow truck driver said he had orders to "deliver it to Bob at the corner of 5th and Crain'. Dad told him to drop it on the dirt lot next to the shop. Later that afternoon, the old man brought dad the title and told him to do what you want with it, shook his hand and left.
I just happened to be getting my license later that month, so dad gave it to me with the understanding when I found what I really wanted, he gets half of what I sell it for. 3 weeks later I was driving it. 3 months later I sold it for $900 because another guy, Mr DeLenoci gave me a 71 Swinger with a dead slant 6 in it. I made extra good with dad and gave him $500 of the 9.

My first car was a 1970 Pontiac Tempest. My dad bought for me when I was 15. He paid $150 for it. It sat in the back corner of the shop for about 8 months until I got my license.
I drove it for 9 or 10 months before the carb took a crap. Never could get it to run right again, so we sold it. Ended up with the 66 Barracuda I still have today.

My first car: 66 Barracuda Formula S Citron Gold/ Citron Gold Interior, 4sp. $650.00 46 yrs ago. Still have it

Like the jeep part !
Not the totaled part !
Glad you made it !

At 15 years old I bought a 1967 Dodge Charger, red with black interior, 4 bucket seats, full length console, 318 LA 2 bbl automatic. More bondo than metal, got it running really well, and sold it about 6 weeks before my 16th, then bought a super clean 68 Ford Fairlane 500 2 dr hardtop, 289 automatic, buckets, and NO rust. Beat the daylights out of it, (young and stupid) until it was t boned by a drunk driver. I still miss that one. Since then there's been over 130 cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Before the '66 Ranchero. I was 7.

I was sitting in it under the Christmas tree long before the parents and little sister woke on Christmas morning :steering:

I actually had two first cars. A 67 Triumph Spitfire and a 73 340 Rally Charger.

64 Plymouth Savoy, 2 door post, ex Highway Patrol car, 383, pushbutton automatic, PS, PB, AC. I was a senior in High School and I paid $600 of my hard earned money for it. What a great car.

My first was a 72 gold duster 318, wife's first was a 74 dart sport 360, a real 360 car, oldest son's first is a 71 4door valiant, second son's first is an 85 d100 long bed, youngest son's first is an 88 d100 short bed.

The whole family got started out right!

All 3 of our sons are driving their firsts daily.

My dad said he would do the down payment, etc.. on whatever I could make the monthly payments on. There was a red hot rod Nova on this used car lot and I LIKED IT! Dad said, "You'll get killed in that". Soooo, My 71 Gremlin 232 was yellow with black stripe. 68 dollars per month for 2 years.
My best friend had a 65 SS Impala hot rod. We used my car to get to school and jobs and part stores. Most of our spare time was spent turning wrenches on the Impala for weekend cruising, street racing, other foolishness.
I had a blue 73 Levis X Gremlin with 304 for a few years also. It was a lot more fun to drive.

1960 Impala 348 3x2's 3 speed. White bubble top, red and white herringbone seats, $275 from a friend.. Damn, today 53 years later I can picture every inch of that car in my mind. Have one picture of it, but it's me sitting in it and you can only see the drivers door. Man the freedom that car made me feel was incredible. Heart jumps when I see one,...... like this.

Can't remember the first car actually registered in my name, but I think it was my 71 Demon slant 6. No pictures of it, but I do have a picture of my next car, which was my first Barracuda.

My first car in 72 was a 66 Plymouth sport fury. 383 bucket seats auto in the floor. 500 dollars. Really nice car. Then the gas crunch hit and gas shot up to 75cents a gallon. Bought a Ford Blue 70 Maverick grabber. Rolled it. Went back to Mopar. 70 Sport Satellite yellow and black with hounds tooth interior. 318 auto. Really nice car.

I started driving in 2010
First car was a 1974 Dodge Dart Custom
Slant six, automatic, four doors
Burnt orange exterior, tan interior

No pictures unfortunately. Drove it for about two years before the torsion bars fell out of the frame (Ohio rust)

My second car was a 1975 Plymouth Valiant Brougham
Slant six, automatic
Brown exterior, tan vinyl top, tan interior

Totalled it when a guy pulled out in front of me, I was going about 45mph

When I owned both cars at the same time, I was working my high school job at an auto parts store. The discount helped me keep them running and driving, but rarely both simultaneously. So since money was tight, I only kept insurance on one at a time (whichever was currently operable). If one broke down and I had to try and drive the other, I'd switch the plates and pray I didn't get pulled over.

Back in high school, I remember I was missing the choke spring on the exhaust manifold. Bolts broke off. So, it was loud. When we left to go home, I usually set off a few car alarms when I fired it up. Those notorious ballast resistors left me in an embarrassing situation more than once.

Well in 92 I bought a 72 340 cuda f8 auto matching numbers extra complete interior panels, bucket seats, extra power bulge hood , front fender and valance.
340 was brand new rebuild only a couple pin holes of rust in lower quarters.
1500.00 dollars
Unfortunately I sold the extra parts and body.
The 340 is in my 72 4 speed cuda now.
The original motor for my 4 speed is sitting in a corner.
