i did it in a 68 dart, pull the grill, radiator, bumper, and the hood hatch mount thing... should be just about a straight shot after that...

and what are u replacing it with? bought the double set from autozone and it lasted 6K miles...

I've done a few but never had to pull the grille or bumper....maybe if you're changing the cam you would. Set the timing at TDC, pull the radiator, fan, outer crank pulley (if it has one), balancer (with a proper puller...don't pry on the outer ring!) front pan bolts and T.C.bolts, and cam sprocket bolt. Spray WD-40 on the crank sprocket and work it off with a pry bar or puller along with the cam sprocket and chain. Install the new set, spin the engine around by hand a couple of revolutions, Degree it, and reinstall everything.

just makes it easier to see the marks to line them up

Not sure why the autozone piece only lasted you 6k miles, but ive never had problems with the above chain.Hell ive seen people run em on slants pushing 20+lbs of boost, and some n/a slants making over 250 crank hp.I also had a buddy that ran a 20 buck autozone chain for over 60,000 miles. My point being you dont NEED to spend big bucks on a chain.

Hay, I was pokin fun at your VW "junkola". Lemmie tell you a quick story. when I was in high school in 1980, we used to go to the old Warner Robins Dragstrip. There was this really hot chick who raced a full bodied bug that consistantly ran 10 second 1/4 mile times. She put the whoopin on many a big block....ALL BRANDS. She was really good with the tree too and almost always won her race. That was one RADICAL *** bug. That's been a long time ago....but if I remember right, it was all motor. I could be rememberin that wrong, but I think that's how it was.
