anti-recline device causes fight on plane/2 kicked off

-
I'm with the woman on this one. This guy has no right to interfere with the proper operation of the airlines seats. It's not his decision who gets to recline and who doesn't. He should have removed it when told to do so by the flight attendant.
Instead he refused to remove it, and caused the plane to be diverted to Chicago so he and the woman could be removed from the plane.
Probably a couple hundred people inconvenienced by the delay, just cause this guy wanted to be a jerk.

While I understand why the guy used the device I agree with you....

I can see both sides of the arguement. I am 6 ft tall and have very bad knees that have to be moved every so often so they don't cease up. The woman has the right to enjoy her seat as well. The guy was an *** and she didn't help either. The airline did the right thing.

At 6'4" if I can fly from east coast to west coast without reclining, those who are under 5' should also. If they just made all chairs unable to recline it would fix this problem.

if a person will go thru all the bullshit of ordering a device and putting it on a airline seat then he can pony up and fly first class. EVERYONE in coach has the same seat with the same recline function. thats the ticket you paid for when you booked your flight. if i was on the flight with this guy i would be livid!

they should call it nose saver because when the seats recline it moves about 3" at the top... unless you have a giant dolphin nose it shouldn't affect anything... does it affect anyone's knees when they recline in front of you?

Well said

+1

I'm a big boy with a VERY large chest. Anytime someone reclines their chair I barely have any room. I can't even lean forward enough to get the magazine out of the pocket in front of me.

The lady should have just let the crew handle this. You don't get into an altercation on a plane.

One time this dingbat in the seat in front of me unceremoniously slung her bag into the space in front of my feet which would be for MY things. I just let the flight attendant handle it rather than getting into it with her.

You are right, they don't affect the knees unless you have really long legs. The seats pivot at the bottom/back of the seat and only move at the top. Unless your legs go halfway up the back of the seat in front of you, the knees shouldn't be affected whatsoever. I'm 100% with the lady on this one. He should have either went first class or got an emergency exit seat.

where was the air martial? dont those guys detain people like that? all those folks on the plane had to put there lives on hold because this guy felt that his leg room was more important then everyone else. this guys should be liable for compensating those people on the plane.

..... If they just made all chairs unable to recline it would fix this problem.
yup, simple enough solution...

The lady should have just let the crew handle this.

And I quote....."But the male passenger refused to remove the device when asked to do so by the flight attendant."

so it sounds like she did.....but peckerweed apparently had his own agenda.....

Why don't people just stick to fightin about things worth fightin over? Like freedom. Everybody's so confrontation ready these days. I never seen anything like it. I've never flown and never will that I can foresee, but from what I have seen, I would never recline out of respect for the person behind me. They pack people in them things like sardines anyhow. Why be inconsiderate and make it worse?

See, this is what's wrong with the modern America. We have people who think like you. The seats are supposed to recline, that's why they are made that way

The problem is not whether the seats recline IT'S THAT THE AIRLINES have scrunched too many seats in trying to get those last 4 people in the airplane

You can see both sides of this.

There's not very much room on a plane, and hard to get comfortable. You're packed in there like sardines...

Another reason that I prefer to drive than fly...

actually not true. not every seat has a recline function. the seats in front of an emergency exit do not have a.recline function , nor do the seats between a double overwing exit. however the best seat in the house in coach is the row thats at the aft overwing emergency exit. this row does recline because theres no exit behind it. the row at the fwd overwing exit has extra room but these do not not recline as it will interfere with emergency egress from the aircraft aft overwing emergency exit thats behind it

typically your seat spacing is 31" from front track locking pin, to front track locking pin seat to seat. emergency exit rows are typically 36" from locking pin to locking pin. so your aft overwing emergency exit row which i try to get everytime i fly has extra legroom, and reclines. works great since i have bad knees.

how do i know this, well i am an airline heavy maintenance mechanic.

Matt

its not that bad, its only one hundred dollars.

I think that they probably had to buy another ticket to get from Chicago to Denver where they were supposed to go anyway. and last minute tickets for a flight are $$$$ So this did cost both parties to buy another ticket to get to where they were going...

Hopefully the flights won't stop serving drinks because of this. (another way for them to save money also)...

She has a right to her space and to be comfortable, but not to throw a drink on someone.

Dude is a dickhead.

If you don't want people reclining the seat or want more room, don't fly economy/coach. Buy a first class ticket.

Yeah.

He did upgrade to "economy plus", but he didn't go full blown first class....

I've never heard of "economy plus" before this, as I try not to fly because of all of the hassles. It sounds like the "poor man's first class"....

I fly fairly often. I'm only 5'10" but some airlines my knees are right up against the seat in front of me. Recline that seat and I'm squashed the whole flight. My response? I suddenly have coughing and sneezing fits and since their heads not 10 inches in front of me, oh well. Sometimes the "it's my right" verses common courtesy towards others is lost. However, once told he should have removed the device and she shouldn't be throwing water on anyone.

If it was two dudes it woulda been fists flyin not water

I'm 6'3" and if the seat in front of me is in the upright position, by knees are usually hard against that seat back. If the person in front of my tries to recline it usually gets very uncomfortable for both of us. My knees are getting crushed against their back, and, yes, they can feel that.

It usually only takes one or two tries before the stop. In most cases common courtesy prevails.
