EASY!!! Just bypass the damn thing, if it starts, runs, it is bad!!!Is there a way to test those? I wonder if that's why I'm not getting spark at the polara
They cost $7.00 People say you can test them. People say you can by pass them for a short period. I suppose you can but I have never been successful at it. I always carry an extra one in my glove boxIs there a way to test those? I wonder if that's why I'm not getting spark at the polara
Start bypasses the one for the coil anyway - assuming it hasn't been cutupEASY!!! Just bypass the damn thing, if it starts, runs, it is bad!!!
Could be the connections too.He hooked up a meter to it and the voltage was really low coming out of it.
The starting circuit by-passes the resistor and switches over to power through it when you let off the key. When they begin to fail, resistance goes up and the spark from the coil gets weaker until they eventually are done. Testing them is unreliable since they can show good when cold and get worse as they heat up. Easiest thing to do is to keep a couple of spares and swap one out if you are having any ignition issue...like Tike says.
Yep, you just don’t want to leave it that way for too long or it will fry the points and shorten the life of the coil. Fine for testing though.Ever Hot wire a car? Well plenty of car thieves did. It bypassed the stupid ballast resistor. Does not hurt a thing for a test drive. REALLY!!
I love you too George! But let's try and keep this thing on the down low!Passion? I love u! lol
Benricky is buying the "old" 17X7 wheels!!!Hey Dave, you see the 69 with the "new" 17 X8 wheels?

Keith...are you listening? I am an old fart and have had many MANY mopars and have replaced many of them. The first place I lookHe hooked up a meter to it and the voltage was really low coming out of it.
I've tried 3 coils, 2 dizzys including one rebuilt by hoppy. Wired exactly to this chart for pointsIf it is trying to start but just won't OR if it starts and shuts off as soon as you let go of the key that is what it is most of the time. They are the curse of the Mopar
But IF you by pass it. Do not run it long or you could have more problems they are there for a reasonStart bypasses the one for the coil anyway - assuming it hasn't been cutup
Jeezz I drove a hot wired 383 for over a hundred miles, lost the keys. Got new key, started it and never had a problem. Replaced the points as part of a regular tune up later...But IF you by pass it. Do not run it long or you could have more problems they are there for a reason
IF you ran a wire from the batter to the coil and bypassed the resister but didn't remove the resistor I can believe that. Hell I believe everything you say .But try removing the resistor and using the hot wire I am just saying it will burn things up .I don't know why everyone just refuses to accept the fact that the resistor on a mopar has a functionJeezz I drove a hot wired 383 for over a hundred miles, lost the keys. Got new key, started it and never had a problem. Replaced the points as part of a regular tune up later...
IMO Not that big a deal....For testing!! OK! If car runs then the resistor is suspect!
David is about the third person just lately .So why should I even say anything no one listens
