So,if Fred’s name is Fredrick,why isnt Rick’s Rickfred?
Something that has bothered me for 45 years...

Hey want to throw you guys and gal some information.
I just bought and received today a rear interior panel for my 67 convertible.
A very hard part fpr me to find that is not cracked or putty filled.
It is in excellent condition, as advertised, all I have to do is repaint it.
Anyway second time I have bought from this seller and very happy both times.
He is in Canada and will work with the product price and shipping.
Very sincere in your satisfaction!!
He is a major seller and explained to me he has over 100,000 used MOPAR parts 1966-1974.
If you are interested in his contact shoot me a PM.
He has an online store and likes to sell direct and avoid the ebay fees.
Nice. K. Info?

Ahh I knew it was Coors something...my bad!!

As a general rule, drip rails, vinyl top molding and window trim are SS. Almost everything else is aluminum or chrome plated pot metal.

Hmmm, any easy way to tell. Im specifically wondering about the trunk lip trim on my car? Looking at it today it appeared to be oxidized like Aluminum.

Craig, reason I ask is your method of polishing.. I dont want to wreck it if it isnt stainless.

Which trim molding is it?

I used it on chrome but had a good abrasive polish to buff it out. Meguires mag polish.
Dave had explained to him how I cleaned up my SS wet sanding using 800, 1500, 2000, then polish.
I did the trunk well (along the rear window) and trim along the top of the doors where your arm would hang as your drive down the road on a nice day.
All by hand worked great!!

Some times stainless steel is magnetic but I doubt the trim is the type that is

Only the higher number grades is SS are magenetic and are too hard to be ducted into car molding. Most of those are classified as Ferritic and numbered at 400 and above . Car trim is usually 301 or 304 SS and are only very weakly magnetic since they are Austenitic and have a low ferrous metal content.

Craig, will that method still work with the Aluminum?
Only sort of, you need to smooth and polish.. Using the process he describes will work well, but the final polish must be done using a soft-metal polish made for aluminum if you want the bright finish back. You also need to be gentle on the wet sanding since you can literally sand through the metal because it is so soft. Just work to get the finish even at each step and no further.

Well, we either just had a small earth quake, or there’s a very big crash near by somewhere cause the house just shook for a good 15-30 seconds
