73 Duster build named Fred

Cool video. It doesn't look you are brake torquing it very hard, do you know what rpm you are at? Also what are you shifting at?
Two step wasn’t hooked up and I rolled on one run during qualifying so I was trying to keep it consistent by not bringing it up on the converter. Shifting at 7000.

If you had your 2 step hooked up, you would've had to give me your $1000.00 lol

Made it home late last night after a grueling 20 hours of driving (which was better than the 26hr drive there thanks to snow flurries) and got Fred unloaded this morning. Sitting here going through video and pictures from our trip and probably one of my favorites would be this one taken by Mike (@TT5.9mag). It was great meeting you, your amazing wife Laura, John ( @GTX JOHN ) his son John and John ( @33IMP ). As I was organizing the pictures, I came across what Fred looked like on the first day I started to work on the build back on March 4, 2023 and the picture of Fred just a few days ago at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. What a ride that has been and I can't wait to work out the bugs and get the car dialed in this season. Here's Day 1 of Fred and a picture showing why I built him.

How old are you. I would have 24 hour jet lag after that trip at 67 years old. But then again I do all the driving too.

62, soon to be 63. Normally I drive as well but for this trip I accepted the offer from my good friend to handle all of the driving duties. It definitely helped and I am not exhausted today although I am lacking the motivation to do much. lol

So five years difference basically as I turn 68 in March. I know 13 years of retirement not punching a clock has taken a toll too but I try to keep busy. You got to. Life is good.

Too short also. I hope you elders are here when I'm in my 60s ...14 more years. I would really appreciate it

You didn't stop by my house. I'm mad bro lol

Do you even wheelie bro?

As soft as the car was launching, I am surprised to see wrinkles and air....lol We will get the two-step working and have the car leaving much harder next time.

I can't wait to feel the wheelie
It's a bunch of fun. I had been running my car at a temporary airport runway track, it left good but not great.
Irwindale opened, ran my Plymouth the second week, Tina the third week. First lap "what the heck was that?!?" Oh! My first wheelie, what a kick!

Awesome lol. I'm getting close although it always seems like I come up with 1 more thing but the stuff I'm doing now is for future rear suspension upgrades and making a very capable chassis.

Time for a complete tear down and inspection after our trip to Vegas and the first time out. We made 10 hits with the first 2 in the 11.40's and the rest of the passes consistently 10.80's.

We had a few electrical issues that had us ripping into the harness to troubleshoot and so I will clean up the mess we left with the wiring. Other than that, the car performed flawlessly but since I have 2 months before our tracks open up, I want to check/re-check everything while I have the time so we can be confident racing the season.

Also, I ordered fiberglass hood, trunk lid and bumpers which should be here in 3-4 weeks that will be going on the car to lighten it up a bit. I fully expect to have this combo in the low 10's once the season starts.

Nice. After you get everything on see if you can get someone with scales to weigh if for you.

Oh cool, I figured your weight as 3200 with you in it so that will be pretty light. I keep adding weight maybe I can get as heavy as your super stock lol

My sons 1970 duster is 3200-3250 with him in it. Heavy six pak fiberglass hood and the rest all steel. 8 point cage and frame connectors and stock glass. I’m guessing he weighs around 150 pounds. If Bill didn’t lighten the doors I’m betting he’s 3300 plus

It’s crazy these cars are that heavy. I always thought A-bodies (especially with small blocks) were much lighter considering I grew up dealing with my dads tank of a roadrunner. Then I saw how much people’s stuff really weighed and I was shell shocked.

The glass hood, deck lid, and bumpers will certainly help lighten er up.
