Bonneville Landspeed Racing - Let's Try a Thing.

Also. I am painting the car a very dark green but I love the multi tone paint jobs of NASCAR from the 60's- 80s. So, my mind has wondered to painting the horizontal (top) a lighter white or silver or ??? This will help with the sun beating down when out on the salt too

Anyone reading this have a favorite?

Dark green and silver look good together. Maybe an accent color for a pinstripe like red.

I put some sheet metal on for the lower fender behind the tires with exhaust exits. Crude and need a bunch of work, but I like it.

Yessir. During its 40 years in a junkyard it was stabbed thru the door and the other fork through the quarter and inner wheelhouse. Also, the damage to the roof above the passenger side window.

So i made some tipping tools for making sheet metal flanges and a set of door handles. They are the interior/external handles that mount up in the window channel near where the original vent windows were. Turned out really nice I think. Not sure if they will fit well, but that will have to wait and see.

Well, no real update. Been really sick and it's been far too cold. No heat in the garage. I did pick up green bearing and the rear brakes, the window net and install kit. I removed the door handles today and installed the homemade ones. The raito is wrong. Very lillte travel. Going to have to play with that a bit. Bitter cold this week yet, then warm into the mid to upper 30s by Sunday. Woohoo! Then get some stuff done.

I guess the cold weather gives you time to catch up on some rest and get healthy....and give you time to think about what to do next.

Man, I sure can't catch a break with this cold - cough. Relentless so say the least.

Side question....

To come up with < 305ci. Where there custom cranks in the 340 for SCCA to get to 5.0L or did can you use a 273 crank like a GM could?

Mopar offered the cranks through direct connection. Something close to 2.96 stroke

It drops the record by 32mph if I had a 305ci with turbo on gas.

Hm....R3 or ritter block, with the extra head bolt bosses....hmmmmm
All of this is out of my budget. I am ready to throw in the towel on a record attempt. Just too expensive. This was all just to strive to meet my personal life goal of 200mph. Not sure what this first engine will do, but I think trying it this year to get rookie stuff done, then add 18-20psi boost and Q or C16 fuel, I will get me to my goal ultimately.

What’s the record in that class? I could make a LOT of power with 305cu/in if you give me boost and Q16.

@TT5.9mag. In the 2024 book it has a record of 223 and change. Not sure if anyone bumped it this summer. I know Alex Taylor got the C engine record this year bringing it from 224 to 235 or so i believe. I am waiting for my 2025 book. For 223, I should be able to on 800-1000hp. Or car changes and a bit less. My friend Jerry did 238 in a Daytona with 950hp for reference this summer.

I have a 383, 400 and 360 mag to play with, just not much of a budget. If there was an affordable way to destroke the 360mag, to <305.99, add boost and Q16, then 30mph reduction in record is huge!

So, reading that a 301 poly engine could donate a short stroke crank....hmmmmm

Or a small displacement Gen 1 hemi with boost and Q16?

241 Hemi with boost on alcohol?? E engine blown fuel record is 225

Boost and Q16 would definitely help make up for the displacement loss, especially with a good intercooler setup. That 30mph gap in the record is huge, but if your setup is dialed, it’s not impossible. What’s your plan for aero and gearing?
