Cool, I have one of those as well. I associate those more with the '68 S/S cars but that's minutiae nerd stuff. The later ones like I showed are actually much harder to find though, I don't think SW made nearly as many. Also, if you don't have or can't find a cable for it I can forward you the info on the place that made mine.

Also - if you're interested, there's a pair of Fenton Gyro front runners currently for sale on marketplace in Linden NJ. I have a pair on my Duster or I would have went and bought them already. Guy is asking $800 which is not too bad for 2025. They appear to have Formula 1 Super Stock tires on them and I know someone who would definitely want those.

Does not get any more '71-'72 Pro Stock than Fenton Gyros!

Thanks I just found one online and scooped it up. I had to get it im a stickler for the detail also so that's is important to me.

As far a wheels go I have 4 complete sets (just got to get my slotted front runners from my buddy in mass) Cragar S/S 15x4 & 15x12,Super tricks 15x3.5 & 15x13 early keystone classics 15x4 & 15x12s and Fenton/ Ansen slots 15x3.5 fronts and 15x12 rears. I also have a front set of Moto wheel flys 15x4. The fronts are all 5x4.5 and the backs are 5x5 pattern

Agreed it doesn't get more period than that between all the rims and tires and 4 hoods (all with different scoops) 2 grills 71&72, to trunk lids (different paint jobs) and vertical, leaf style wheelie bars the car will be able to change quite a bit so you never know what you will get when we go to the track or event. I know its crazy to be able to make the car semi modular but these cars changed week to week so I like the I idea of that constant change depending what I wish to emulate weather its early to mid 71 or 72 even that mater the beginning of 73 being a tribute it awards that flexibility.

I thought I was mildly obsessed with this stuff... cool that you found one of those tachs so quickly!

I've had that tach for a long time, it's one of my treasured objects. I've stopped looking for them for a while now but years ago I used to search for vintage gauges all the time and those tachs would rarely if ever come up. The later plastic SW ones with the yellow markings yes, and ones like you showed are somewhat common but definitely not the #424.

I also have an earlier Moroso cable drive tach (I grew up and still live in Stamford, Conn.!) and though it's electric a very early '70's Autometer half-sweep that Dyno Don was hawking back in the day. I have the sending unit/rev limiter thing for it too. Autometer even sent me the original instructions.

Sorry to hijack but it's fun to get into these types of details and you certainly are well versed in this world. A lot of people miss the particulars when they do tribute-type builds or clones or what have you. The small details make or break the whole thing. It's expensive and time consuming to pull it off to the nth degree but it will be worth it in the end.

I'll put this out there now - when yoiu finish this thing you should think about entering it into the MCACN 2026 show in Chicago. It will blow minds.

Thanks growing up in Wareham MA I am a fan of moroso I know Rick and a bunch of the guys over there. I got this original with bracket I was going to use when in modified eliminator trim before the restoration but instead is a shelf piece for now.

It's funny you mentioned MCACN they asked me to bring the car as a bare metal/fiberglass roller with the 16 plug on the stand this year but I turned them down. The motor will be at PRI this year and when done the car is scheduled to debut at Sema now then go to Mooneyes JP before I start to race it again.

I temporarily reinstalled the pedals to check their fit with the firewall bar. With a few minor modifications, they should work well. Now, I’m on the lookout for another pedal box, whether it’s for a manual or an automatic. I have an idea I want to try

Went out to the shop after work and dropped in the mockup with the headers. The driver’s side fit nicely and will only need a slight adjustment. The passenger side will be trickier, but definitely workable.

Will that valve cover even come off with the engine in the car?? If it does it will shave off any paint on it. That is tight.

Yes, they will and also the inner fenders will be aluminum and unpainted the cover itself will be contoured for more room just like the Motown Missile car plus the Sox and Martin elephant ears versus the ramcharger ones are a quarter inch closer to the passenger side

Back to the office after flying down to TX2K for work! Of course, I had to make a quick stop at Summit, where I scored a set of big-block headers for the C10 in the outlet for 90% off—found a box, checked them on my flight home, and called it a win. Overall, it was a great trip, catching racing at three tracks in four days, plus some solid street action. It also gave me time to brainstorm a few ideas for the car, which I'll be diving into soon. But first, the plan is to wrap up the pedal box tomorrow night and get ready to pull the driver's quarter panel this weekend.

So just like in earlier posts I was talking to Rmchrgr about finding an NOS 10 k tach it arrived and it is mint I very happy with it and was fortunate to find it. I also found a NOS chrome bezel to replace the polished aluminum one (originally black but I stripped it and polished it.) like the whole build I want it right not just good enough.

So last night I decided to start on the new pedal box since it came in. The other one worked but the ending wasn't great so I decided to make a 2.0 so all parts look their best even if it's never seen. Here's the basic start and tonight I plan to weld up the master bracket and the spring mount to make it adjustable. (also the rusty bracket after a night in evaporust)

My buddy hooked me up with a pedal box for the Demon, giving me the chance to redo the original and improve the master cylinder mount. Taking on this project also let me metal finish the pedals and all the small details. I’ll need to mock it up in the chassis again to add the clutch stop.

I got a couple of messages on the spring mount so here it is a 5/16 heim joint with a pair of jam nuts to set preload I added a small safety retention on the pedal itself so the spring never comes off accidentally. The mount itself is a 3/16 chassis tab with a bronze bushing and a cage gusset. This was an idea I came up with to make the unit serviceable for removal if needed and adjustable as well (got the idea off a tractor actually)

one more pick mocked up with the new assembly a little more to do but this is almost 100% minus paint. Plus on the hunt for one of these clutch stops

Made some solid progress after work and hit a good stopping point to dig in again tomorrow. Got the rest of the rocker welded on along with a few other loose ends. I fit the pedals—hopefully for the last time—in preparation to install the stop/adjuster. Then we spun the car around so I can start removing the quarter panel first thing tomorrow!

Before I dive into the quarter, I’m taking a page straight out of Herb McCandless’s playbook and adding a series of tabs throughout the cage to tie the body into the chassis even more solidly.

I went ahead and pulled off the old quarter panel and cleaned up all the spot welds. The previous work left a lot to be desired, so this fix was long overdue. While I was in there, I got a not-so-gentle reminder of the car’s past life as a commuter—a rotted-out rocker. Thankfully, it’s an easy fix.

With that little surprise out of the way, I got all the rear inner panels fitted up and installed.

Before wrapping up for the day, I also knocked out the clutch pedal height adjuster. Tomorrow, the plan is to christen the driver’s side with matching holes (thankfully I took plenty of reference photos), and tack in the rear wheelie bar crossmember.

Good idea, as soon as I get my roof welded on to my car I'll be doing the same thing.
Looking really good, you're making really good progress.

Today was exactly what I needed to stay on track. I got everything wrapped up except for the rocker "tomorrow's project", which means I’ll be ready to hang the new quarter panel in a couple days. I also finished up the headers, installed the new rear cross bar, and worked on the clutch rod opening. Back to reality now, but I’m happy with how the weekend went.

P.S. — The car is getting crazy light when I roll it on its side… I almost flipped it over!

That organization is something I'm trying to achieve, knowing where stuff is located is foreign but I'm soon to find out. Great job again!

Didn’t get many pictures last night, but after dinner I made it out to the shop and knocked out the rocker repair. I’m about 90% happy with how it turned out. Turns out the car had been hit on that side at some point, which explains a few things. Don’t mind the runny primer along the bottom—that’s getting sanded off, and weld-through primer goes there anyway. I was just out of it. Today, it’s on to the quarter panel.

Super stoked with how one of my twin plug cover sets turned out. Took a chance and sent it out for chrome—came back looking absolutely killer. This motor is going to be wild. VHT wrinkle black is pure gold! I’ve been using it for years and it never lets me down. So I can't find an aluminum or mag cover for my transmission so this will do.
