    Painted the engine bay

I love that fresh look after a new paint job. It make me want to pull up a chair and read it a bedtime story.

First Gas Tank swap - What do I need to know?

And don't forget to clean the grounding strap on the sending unit to the tank for a good ground. Those get rusty too and a poor contact is guaranteed.

First Gas Tank swap - What do I need to know?

In my Duster project, the same leaky gas tank came up. I soldered the holes, used KBS tank coating to seal in the holes and give it an impervious coating. Then purchased a new sending unit. In hind sight, I should have just purchased a new tank like you did. It would have saved me lots of...

    400ci to 500ci

My plans are to stroke a 400 block I have prepared to a 470ci or 500ci for my Duster. I want a nice street rod that gives me max ponies for the money without making a race only motor. A 470 stroker kit sound very nice to me but a 500 stroker kit makes me smile just a bit more - But I don't...

    70 duster tire size

My current set up is 215/45ZR17s on the front, and 235/40ZR18s on the back. I rolled the bottom lips of my fenders and get no rub with lock to lock turning. On hindsight, I would have went to 9"s on the back with the appropriate tire since there's lots of room with the stock setup. Here's my...

    SS Springs

Here's mine: Stock rear springs with one leaf spring add for stiffness, cheap shocks and a pinion snubber. http://rides.moparmusclemagazine.com/ride/1207287/bigd123/1973/plymouth/duster/photos/1.html

Two questions on a 400 build

Recently I've purchased a full 1976 400 engine with a 727 transmission. With my mind reeling with ideas to swap into my '73 duster, I'm wondering if I can get by with a steel 440 crank offset ground to get close to a 470 engine. 440 Source seems to shy people away from this idea and push to...

These are stock springs from a 340 model with an additional long spring added for stiffness. D

    1973 Plymouth Duster

This Duster is a semi restoration project since August 2009. Lots of rust mitigation and additions. Originally a 340 engine but now replaced with a 360, 600 Edelbrock, Mopar cam, semi-ported J heads, Mopar intake, headers, X Pypes with Cherry Bomb glasspacks added, painted the bumpers due cost...

    Wheel spacer

I also have a '73 duster and used a half inch spacer. These are very cheap and can be found at Jegs, Summit or any place that sells wheels. Make sure you have measured the backspace and fender well correctly. And if you are thinking of anything thicker than a 1/2", you should be installing...

Very good. Glad to hear it was a small dollar item.

Wouldn't this just require a reset of the timing after the plug wire were reversed? I have noticed that the HEI get's quite warm when operating and I'm always looking for the cooler range of operation. One write-up of the HEI conversion says that the wires need to be correctly placed: "Make...

Does it actually run backwards or diesels when turned off? The later would more be either too much retard (closer to TDC) or overly rich mixture and possibly preignition. Make sure timing is corrected before working on anything else. If your friend's Petronix ignition worked, would that be the...

    bypassing interlock system

That blue box is the seatbelt interlock. All of the main wires coming from your ignition switch go to this unit but it they are not in series, meaning that if you disconnected them, they are not vital to the operation of other electrical items. If you value the seatbelt buzzer, seatbelt light...

Try swapping the distributor wires and rechecking timing. Oddly, one works and the other doesn't. In the HEI conversion on my Duster, the correct connection never let the ignition rev more than 1300 or so, and by switching the connection, allowed free revving and starting.
