No oil coming up through my push rods.

seafoam? on a new build? I dunno, sounds like a Hail Mary to me. Are all the pushrods spinning when engine is running? That's important to know.
I did ask about that and he said they should not be spinning.

if it's a roller cam, no, they should not be spinning. But if it's a flat tappet, solid or hydraulic, they better be spinning or you'll end up with a dead cam and lifters, and a bunch of metal mud circulating past all your bearings, and polished journals.

Ok good to know I'll pick his brain some more.

Flat tappet camshaft lobes are ground on a taper across the face. They are not flat. Likewise, flat tappet lifter bottoms are not flat on the bottom. They are convex, on the order of about .002". The reason for these two machining processes is simple. So that when the camshaft rotates in the bore, the lobes will cause the lifters to spin in their bores. The reason for this is so the camshaft lobes will not scrub the same area over and over and cause a failure. I have noticed sometimes pushrods spin, sometimes not. I am not 100% certain that is critical, as long as they are getting good oil, but the lifters must rotate in their bores as the engines turns over. I also agree Seafoam will probably not help. You can try it, it's a good product. But yours is a new build. I honestly don't think you have carbon buildup in the lifters.

Now, you had the rockers off. "I" would have removed the lifters one at a time and put them back looking for a problem there. I still recommend that. Ticking indicates a problem. You keep lookin and you'll find it eventually.

As said an ex leak can sound incredibly like noisy rockers. A squirt bottle of soapy water around the ex manifold ports might pinpoint this (do it when cold to avoid the quick evaporation). Yes the lifters need to rotate (didn't think the pushrods needed to also but I am open to learning). Seafoam 16 oz "motor treatment" is the only snake oil I use/believe in & that is in the gas tank. You dont need it or want it for this deal. As said check preload/interference anywhere in the valvetrain & ticking can be a bad lifter (takeing apart & cleaning fixes a noisy one sometimes).

One other thing to check. The ball ends on the pushrods should be ball shaped. Not egg shaped. I had a fresh engine that started having lifter noise. Thought it was a flat cam. Turns out, it was bad quality Edelbrock push rods eating up the tips. New push rods, no problems.

I cannot agree more on the exhaust leak theory. I have had exhaust leaks fool me on more than one occasion.

Oil up through the pushrods? isnt that a small block Chevy thing?...

The number of engines that used pushrod oiling through the years is probably uncountable. Chrysler is among them.

I just got back from dove hunting this weekend did not get a chance to do much on the car. Thank's again for info on the sea foam and the push rods. Mine are egg shape they don't have the ball end. I'll try the spray bottle trick and see if it's an ex leak.

Just to add one more potential cause: the lifters themselves can fail so as to not pump up and hold oil properly. Then they will tick. My son had one on 340 that started ticking after about 700 miles and it just got worse. Replaced it and things are good. This is a common problem these days.

not that long ago, member WSUtard, had a couple of "soft" lifters. That, and incorrect preload. Went to adjustable rockers, too.

Yes, I PM'd him and asked to have them, and he sent them to me. 'Someday' I am going to try to figure what is going on with these hydraulic lifters crapping out.
