I was wondering if anyone has any input on installing a 340 into a Duster that was originally a 6cyl. Is it best to just get a v8 K member or use the adapter kits they sell? It may be one thing to get the engine in there, but is there a suspension difference at all if you adapt the 6cyl k member? I appreciate any input at all, thanks.

If it were me I would change the K frame to a 73+. You get a correct fit and upgrade to the better mounts.

Great advice, are they interchangeable rather easily, I mean as far as the 73' fitting and lining up with the other components? Thanks

what year duster do you have?

i used the adapter mounts when doing our 6cyl to 360 swap. worked out great. i don't like the look of the 73-up mounts in a 70 car so i just went the mount route. swapping the k-frame or just the mounts will work fine either way. mounts are usually cheaper unless you find a real cheap k-frame. mounts are much quicker and easier to do then the entire k-frame. not that a k-frame is a hard thing to do but it is quite a bit more work then the mounts...

as far as suspension goes the v8 torsion bars would be larger but you would want to go larger on those either way. disc brakes are a nice upgrade also..

People want $300 or $400 for disc brake set up. I personally like spool mount K frames . Add up all the stuff there and sell the stuff you don't need and it's not a bad price.

Only thing about a 73+ K in a 72/ earlier body is IF you have or want to use a factory anti-roll bar for that year. You must use lower arms and anti roll bar to match the year series of the K, or else use an aftermarket bar. You can use an early bar setup on a late K, but not the other way around. This is because the roll bar goes UNDER the K on a 72/ earlier, and THROUGH the inside of the K on a 73/ later. The lower control arms have the tabs in different places for the two series.

There is some argument on whether older or spool mounts are better. I lean towards spool.

The spool mounts limit the travel better. They also wont let the engine pop up and hit the hood. I have had plenty of the biscuit mounts fail. Its even more of a problem on high mileage cars that leak oil. Once that rubber soaks up the oil they are done.
