I know it is E body but thought someone here might be able to offer an opinion.

I have been on the lookout for a set of leaf springs, rear brake assemblies and housing ends so that I can cut down and mount my truck Dana 60 in my 50 Dodge gasser. This week a complete E body 8 3/4 came up for sale, so I bought it for $300 Canadian. It is complete from leafs to an open 489 center section with 2 something gears in it.

My intent is to harvester the springs, housing ends, brake assemblies and u bolt / shock mount plates and sell the center chunk / axles if possible.

Is this thing worth more complete? Should I try and sell it whole and just buy the individual parts that I need? Is an E body housing rare and sought after?

Any thoughts and opinions are welcome.

It's not worth as much as a A body housing in my opinion. Most of the E body's came with an 8 3/4 so they seem to be more of them around. I often see them for sale. As far as what it's worth it depends on the demand in you're area. I do think you did good on you're purchase though

Yes, I figure that I should be able to sell the 489 center section for at least $100.

They're not nearly as rare as A-body housings. I've bought E-body housings for $200, complete rear ends for not a lot more than that. I bought a '68-70 B-body rear axle complete with axles, backing plates, a 742 3.23 open center section and a brand new set of housing ends last year for $400. E-bodies are similar in price, if not a little lower. Some eBay examples. Of course there are folks asking a lot more than this, but they're not getting it.

1970-74 E-Body Cuda / Challenger 8 3/4 Rear Housing | eBay

Mopar E-Body 8.75 Housing / Axles 1970-74 Dodge Challenger Plymouth Barracuda | eBay

I would take what you need and sell the rest, for what you paid for it you can probably recoup most of your money selling the leftovers.

Seperate. Axles can be cut re splined as well

Not likely. Most B/E body axles have a tapered section before the splines. They typically can't be re-splined at A-body length. C-body and truck axles are usually the donors for re-splining.

Correct. Key word most. minorCut to use for different apps. Not needing splined

Well, they're useless for stock A-body width re-splines. I've got over half a dozen E and B body rear axles and they all have the tapered down section before the splines. You have to go super short for them to be useful for anything.

My buddy has a few E body 8.75s as he puts the slightly narrower B body diffs into his to run bigger rubber.. I cut the ends off of a C body when I did my Dana .Kim

I’ve sold 3 housings for 175 and a few with 742 opens for 350.
