True. What people want for beat up originals is just ridiculous.I just dropped in to say I sure wish someone would start reproducing pie pans again.
I did find a new 440 TNT for my Chrysler New Yorker for $50.00.

I like the way you think. The 70-71 air cleaner is already pretty flat or low looking IMO. Oh well time for a Super Stock hood right?
For as rare as those seem to be and the money they are commanding, especially as one that looks as good as yours does, it would be wise to go another route.Agreed, I do what I need to or want to on my cars. Hack it up to make it work if you need to.
I did on my air cleaner base on my Roached Runner to clear the taller Edelbrock intake and 2 stage nitrous plate.

Any spacer ?the 70 style doesn't fit under the hood? what carb and intake are you running that it doesn't fit??
no i would not modify that 70 air cleaner. they bring way too much money these days to hack up.
mine fits with a performer rpm (non air gap) and a holley.

Same one fits under closed hood after playing with base pic 3 & 4Mine fits, but it’s close. I run the Edelbrock Performer RPM and a spacer. Edelbrock AVS carburetor.

That's an accident waiting to happen for me !Yea, leave the Aftermarket Air cleaner on, and when you go to shows put the original back on when the hood is open. Just don't forget and close it.
Wanna come by your place to pick up that hoodthere is always a way to make things work. Its the hood frame that is in the way.

Guessing I was being a little girl - went out there & looked a lot closer with light under the hood while closing & doing the tin foil crush thing - hood latches without touching . Was afraid of bending the hood. Had to let you all know.
Like thisI just dropped in to say I sure wish someone would start reproducing pie pans again.
Mancini used to carry a drop-base air cleaner pan. Maybe still do or you might search one out.Anyone ever massage the base on one of these nice original cleaners. The other is a Mancini repop made to fit - not as nice but you can shut the hood

I was going to suggest that, just to clarify it was 1/4” to 1/2” 2x2” spacer for hood clearanceI like the way you think.
O.P., You could take a page out of the '68 Super Stock Hemi A-Bodies and put 1'' aluminum spacers under the frame between the
K-member and the frame to lower the engine in the engine compartment, and no one will know unless they look!
Cheap and dirty...
