I am so incredibly mad. There's a thread back on Moparts.com that has to do with the impending ban by the EPA on anything to do with private citizens getting hold of body/paint products with VOC's. Of course I expect the EPA and the treehuggers to be our enemies, but there's a member on there that claims to have a bodyshop, and is all for these regs to go thrugh so he can have a "level playing field". His position is "too bad for the guys that have the hands-on talent". He thinks that if we want to do this hobby, it's going to be paying people like him to do the fun stuff. I've about had it with Moparts anyway.

Where there's a will, we'll will find a way.
Someone always know someone else that can get the stuff, I think it will be the guy next door that will turn us in.
I wounder if this going to also include touch-up paint.

I understand your position,

And let me tell you I am NO tree hugger.I am an auto enthusist that uses these types of products .

But I think this ban is a good thing,Belive it or not probably all of the products your using say right on the lable for use only by proffetionals.

But it need to be better understood. What is there definition of who can still purchase? is it somebody using it for commerce?

I am in the refrigeration trade and they came in and regulated us in the late 80s earley 90s ,and all though it seamed like a bad thing it wasnt,
My thought are they should create a outline of why it needs to be regulated,And from that outline create a test for folks to become licenced in handeling the products. Also if your purchasing the product you must have a contract with some one to take away your waste products. Me personally what ever I have as waste (dont tell me you have no waste please) bring to the local shop who paints all of my cars.I know gaurenteed no polutents from me are going into our enviroment.
My biggest fear is that not every one is as dilagent as me in the waste products and our planet is being poluted.

So I am sure I may bee looked at like a tree huger but, this is a good thing if its done correct.

Well having been a Dupont Refinish distrubitor for a long time, that same "rumor" has focused now for the past 8 years, with almost the same "warning", yet never passed or impelemented at all. The car lobby (hobbiests) always shoot it down. I could be wrong, but I dont see it happening within the next few years.

Besides, a applicator certificate can be gotten in a 3 day class. I'm Sikkens(Azko-Nobel), Dupont, Spies certified and havent ever been asked to show my cert cards(you know like freon requires). When ya walk into a paint supplier and the wall says sole to professional automotive refinishers......spend 50.00 and go to a local class and get the certificate. Aint no big deal.

Not to get off the subject, but with emissions standards in Calif.,
why the hell are they so stiff, when 30,000 plus vehicles cross into
Calif. a day from Mexico puffin' oil, coolant and whatever else out the
exhaust and drive right into San Diego. It don't make no sense, I
know I was the chief engineer at the border for 2 years and I've seen it
I should have registered my cars there.
As far as EPA stuff I too am a refrigration, boiler guy it is getting
really hairy as to some of the standards and BS., they are starting
to dream up.
One last item I heard from my lighting vendor yesterday is that your
fluorescent lites will be phased out because of the gases in them,
the fatter T-12 FL. lites will be history pretty soon. ..

Of course I have waste, but I dispose of it properly. Extra paint? Mix it with kitty litter and dispose. Solvents? Never can have enough, use extra to wash parts, and when it's too dirty, pour into kitty litter. The VOC's will always get into the air, what I put out is microscopic compared to what the shops do just cracking the lid. I still maintain that the body shop owner has had his brain infected with the EPA krep. They are not now, or will ever be anything but a drain on the economy. They are the typical government agency. Regulate anything to prove they should continue to exist, and expand their power. Gawd I hope they NEVER get cabinet status. Just wait for Hillary to get in there: They are. You'll be asking her government for permission to go to the bathroom.

Well boys iam 63 years old. hemifish 69. Hit the whole deal right on the head. Here in FLORIDA, its not two bad yet.Can still get all the good supplies to do your own work. SMOKEY.

SEMA does a pretty good job lobbying to stop most of this type of over restrictive regulation.

All the regulations to date have been aimed at the paint suppliers and users that require a permit for there exhausts (i.e., large shops). Even if the worst case was to happen and hobbiests were banned from purchasing paint containg VOC you can already purchase water born paints that have no VOCs. The articles I have been reading on it (can't recall the brand name) regard it highly and the Duponts & PG's of the world will be close behind.

The guy that claims to own a body shop sounds like he is full of BS to me. Virtually all the body shops in my area won't even touch a hobbiest project. It ties up their facilities too long and they can charge enough to compare to what they can make on collison repairs. The few shops that do do this type of work have a 6 month or more waiting list to get into the shop. Can't imagine the body shop industry giving a darn about regulations to control hobbiests and in general would be against any regulation just simply because they have been impacted by them so much already.
