    8 3/4 axle shaft seals

I don't think it would be that big a deal if you didn't use them. They are not that thick to begin with. Its more of a gasket than a shim. I would put it together and as long as you get the proper axle adjustment go with it.

    8 3/4 axle shaft seals

The steel shim/gasket that goes between the backing plate and axle flange is available from Fel-Pro. Part #55032. I ordered mine thru Murrays Auto Parts which is now O'Reilly's. When I took my 8-3/4 apart there were 2 or 3 gaskets on each side. They looked pretty crappy that is why I replaced...

    Dipstick leak

Yes, just a rubber o-ring. Replace the o-ring and I always put some silicone around the tube before I install it. Haven't had one leak yet doing it this way.

Got a leaker, what to do??

I would just clean the area up with some brake clean and put some silicone over it and let it sit overnight. That is the pivot pin for the rear band apply linkage. The pivot pin has a o-ring on it to seal it, over the years the o-ring gets hard and it leaks. It is often over looked during a...

    Hughes highstall convertor??,s

The trans could actually be a 999. which is a 904 with a 5 clutch front drum. 904 came with either a 3,4, or 5 clutch drum. Just above the pan rail on the drivers side there are numbers stamped in the case. If you can post those numbers I can tell you if its a 999 or not. I don't believe the...

    MARBLES in TAILSHAFT.....

At least those 2 things can be changed without pulling the transmission, just the tailshaft housing.

    MARBLES in TAILSHAFT.....

There is a bearing on the output shaft located in the tail housing. The vibration could have damaged the bearing. As mentioned above, I would also check the tailshaft bushing.

    Change flex plates????

Then you will probably have to get the one from Mancini's that is 11" on center.

    Change flex plates????

Measure the distance between the holes on the flex plate diagonally. I have a stock 360 flex plate here and it measures 10" center to center. Then measure your converter.

    Change flex plates????

It does not matter if it is a 10" or 11" converter, it uses the same flex plate. You do know that the flex plate bolt holes only line up one way? One of the holes is offset from the others. Is this the same motor that was in the truck before with a 727?

    differences in 904's?

If the front drum had 5 clutches, its a A999. (usually behind 360's) 4 clutches is a A998. (usually behind 318's) Not all A999's had the low gear set. There is a number stamped on the drivers side of the case just above the pan rail. If its from a 1977 Fury wagon the number should be 4028465 if...

    A904 vs A999

The A999 has 5 clutches in the front drum and 4 clutches in the rear drum. The A904 has 3 clutches in both the front and rear drum. Not all A999 are a lock-up type transmission. The part number is found on the drivers side just above the pan. The following is years and part #'s for A999. 1974-75...
