You are definitely on the right track. The truck trans is the 545RFE and is significantly wider and longer than a 904 or 727. If you are not comfortable with major floorpan cutting and welding as well as fabrication of a custom mount further to the rear than it is better to go a different route...

Great looking car. Just a couple ideas not mentioned that might not throw a code. Not sure what setup you are using, but have you checked fuel pressure? Any chance you have some plugged injectiors?

The best advice I can give is to get a factory service manual and use the wiring diagrams and pinouts of the connectors to determine what goes where and what you can keep and get rid of.

Have you looked into trying to use some style of factory truck mounts from a Ram, Durango, or Grand Cherokee?

A cheaper route is to find the tailshaft from a salvage yard on a trans that is broken or damaged elsewhere. I traded my transfer case for the tailhousing or if you want to go to the trouble you can also likely sell the transfer case for more than the tailhousing cost and be money ahead.

Here's a few pics of my setup. I cut the solid end off the truck shift cable and welded it to the shaft that goes through the adjustment linkage point to get enough length. It still needs a little tweaking, but I'm pleased how easy it was to set up.
