    Correct Engine Color

There have been some original paint motors 1969 340's that have popped up different colors. With strong documentation to back it up. Very few though. But they are oddballs. You can't say all 4-speeds were hemi orange. That's way over-reaching. Many people in this thread have 1969 340 4-speed...

Anyone ever break a SBJ spindle at the upper BJ taper?

I should have been more clear. I didn't mean that kind of financially committed. I meant like you've just or already spent money on rims and/or fancy brakes and didn't want to switch out a bunch of fresh stuff to go large bolt pattern. You avatar pic shows a minilite looking 17-18" rim. I don't...

Anyone ever break a SBJ spindle at the upper BJ taper?

I don't see it as a issue. I've seen plenty of bent 1/2" taller ball joint shanks when I crewed circle track racing. Many times the tubular A-arm bent or snapped before the pin completely broke. Actually I can recall a broken pin. But plenty of bent and broken UCA and LCA's ! Bent front clips...

    Fan too close to radiator?

I believe that 340 fan always had a viscous fan clutch on it. A direct drive 7 blade might be noisy. And it always had a fan shroud.

    Correct Engine Color

Most all 1969 340's are turquoise like yours. There's been a few anomalies of different colors. Most all 1968 340's are red. I've never seen hard proof any different colors.

Motor pictures? How old was it when you had it? Was it a very original car, I see 70 Duster sport mirror and dash cover... Was the motor ever apart? Did you ever rebuild it and sand or removed paint down to see layers of paint?

    Correct Engine Color

Only in 1971 when they changed engine assembly plants. 68 to early 71 340 were assembled at Windsor. And every year had a different part number engine assembly. You don't find 68 carburetors on 69 engines? Well... the the carb is part of the engine assembly !!

    Correct Engine Color

In Spring 1971 340 engine went from Street Hemi Orange to Industrial Blue (light) That happened when 340 assembly changed from Windsor “GW340” to “Mound Rd” “GM340”

    Correct Engine Color

No. That’s false info. Please don’t spread that. There have been some variations on original 1969 340 cars found. They do not necessarily follow 4-speed, auto, and/or A/C. Most were turquoise. If you have something different, you better have good proof to make that case for your motor. It's...

    A833 OD Iron case repair

Many aluminum OD tail-shaft housings are small bushing (I have one). They take a 904 front yoke. Not sure of the interchangeability. Don't know what you have in this cast iron OD trans. But I'd sure try to measure and verify. And verify interchangeability.

[FOR SALE] 68 Barracuda Dash and trim pieces

I see another dash frame in one of the pictures. Did the dashes get mixed up? That is a 68 A-body dash, but doesn't appear to have the opening for the Barracuda Rallye Cluster.

    Front Shock Recommendation

No. Needed when going to 16” and up diameter rims with over 5” backspacing Should consider 215 or 225 tires for handling

Sounds like minor stuff. But it would be very helpful if you knew the cam specs or compression. Just for future tuning. Consider buying a $50 cordless endoscope. They are very handy. I have a Depstech one. You might be able to look inside combustion chamber and read a piston part number or...

Try some google image searches. Looks like a Rocky Mountain aluminum dash fascia??? Maybe search forums for a person asking about those? Is that the 1" taller than original Super Stock scoop? Maybe search for someone asking about that?

That's why they don't give the owner's number. Washes the owner clean of the transaction and possible liabilities. Best bet is getting that when you are in negotiation. But it sounds almost like this car has been flipped a couple times, so the last owner that consigned it may know nothing...

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

Yes. Those are high aspect ratio drag tires with big sidewall bulge and lots of flex. You’ll need to get that rim edge away from that leaf.

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

Aftermarket large bolt axles push out 1/4” per side wider than a stock A-body 8 3/4. If you a have lower profile tire with not much bulge, a 4 7/8” backspacing rim might work with some thin spacers. It’s easier to adjust outwards then inwards. Would need a particular tire for sure.

    Front Shock Recommendation

Hellwig Try to get the front one made for wide front tire clearance. Might not need it now, but could in future Rear sway bar adjustable version

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

With 15x8 rims with 4.5 backspacing at 245/50/15 tires I had no touching to leaf springs or inner wheel well. It was close though. That's "stock" small bolt A-body rear width with stock axle flanges and drum brakes (just re-drilled bolt pattern). OE Leaf springs 100% stock location. That’s the...

REPEAT MISTAKE: NEVER LEAVE A PART AT A GARAGE FOR LATER-LCA ISSUE

It just rotates when you adjust ride height. And that’s very little rotation. Don’t make it sloppy. If it move but lot of resistance, that’s fine. The force from the adjuster screw vs force of the weight of the front end will overcome resistance. Just don’t leave it stuck.

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

I’ve run 15x8 steel rallyes with 4.5 backspace. With 73-76 Disk conversion and stock Upper Control Arms. And with 12” police rotors and pin calipers. So a 15x7 with 4.5 backspace will also work On my Barracuda and my Dart
  27. autoxcuda

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

I would just stay with custom 15x7 rim with 4.75” bksp. And a 225/60/15 tire. But need aftermarket upper control arm. And need check rim lip thickness/design. Otherwise the next tire is a 275/50/15 Nitto Drag Radial. That I hear is a better handling tire than BFG/Cooper stuff. For that wide a...

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

What's the gap between you inside rim and the outward edge of the upper control arm? Lots of factors and stack up going on here: QA1 UCA's, QA1 LCA's, willwood brakes. Makes it tougher to draw comparisons.

    15x8 w/ 4.5” BS on front/good handling size?

A-bodies are a tight. That 1/4” additional backspace is very helpful if you are trying to squeeze 225/60/15 up front.
