    408 oil pressure issues

I steer clear of Fram filters. I try using Purolator most of the time as I have comfortably put like 100,000 miles on their filters in the last 6 years across my drivers. Thanks for making sure to add that point to the list, as I want to be sure I am not leaving anything out. As stated, warmed...

    408 oil pressure issues

So it still drops back down when hot. Quite possibly one of the most notable observations is that when a filter is fresh, I can easily get 60+ psi. After a few minutes, I will drop pressure and 40-45psi is about the max I'll have from then on. This is an F body with 2.45 gears so 5000rpm even is...

    408 oil pressure issues

Have a mechanical guage, had the issues with 10w40 and have had the issues with 10w30. Reassembled it with nylon bushings on both ends of the oil filter adapter fitting and will soon test drive it to see if I still am having the same issues once hot.

    408 oil pressure issues

Background- '72 360 based 408 with newer oil pump/pickup, 360 car pan and dipstick, '98 magnum heads with a hydraulic roller. Hot oil pressure gets low. It's been a few years since it got together and it hasn't seen many miles but it looks like I may have painted the oil filter mounting plate...

Converting LA 360 to roller cam

I'm using the old cover and I don't think I'm going to the new one anytime soon. I run an RV2 on my M1 to be special- if I switch I'll probably go to the '79-up style Sanden since I can. I have a Saginaw power pump as-is. I have a stock '96 318 Ram computer. I may end switching to a stock '98...

Converting LA 360 to roller cam

Just curious- was thinking this looks like the cam I want to run: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lun-20200715 2000 stall 904 NLU, 2.45 gears, M1 MPI, stock Mag heads, manifolds now but plan to go back to headers. Plan to build a 42RE for it and probably swap to 4.10s. Was thinking Morel...

    340 crank questions

340 cast crank were used in 318s. Pistons are heavier which's why the 340 had to be balanced externally with the same crank. IIRC my '84 302-head 318 truck's crank and '73 340 had the same cast #. That is the best way to sell a 340, with a car wrapped around it. And 'course the 360 stroker...

Very, that's the normal 2bbl code.

Has anyone decoded their 340 serial number?

The 318/360 light blue. That looks like it was stripped of its paint and painted red.

    Magnum swap EFI wiring

Vans ccd those years? Know they did 318/727 vans with OBD-II. Of course all OBD-IIs can be flashed, just some will easier to use with your old guages not like the others will be horrendously hard.

Has anyone decoded their 340 serial number?

Junes usually are, I have a June '71 1972 model 340 with external balance and 915 heads, my June '72 340 had 587s on it. 340s were relatively low prodution, and '73 I think it was they started exporting them- but an older block being used on a newer motor doesn't seem out of the realm of...

Basic Magnum question: Safe maximum RPM on stock internals?

Niners were like 3,900ish. The heavy late cars with all the options would hit almost 3,600.

    Whats the deal with 340s?

Is that much worse than less power? Technically they're pedestal mount stock, many switch to ball/stud for cheap roller rockers. The teeners aren't awful, but they're substanically slower to speed and up. That same motor was used like that up to 1980. They also had a 2bbl version of the 360HD...

318 simple bolt on setup for more horsepower

Mine was like 23, lost a couple from the 318. That sounds more like it. I've always wondered why you don't hear much of people getting better fuel mileage with a 2wd than a 4wd that's a decent bit higher.

    No, yes, whichever.

318 simple bolt on setup for more horsepower

It's an 833- a true 4 speed, just 3rd gear is an overdrive. But yeah, I got around that with mine with a 904. That's essentially built to 340 specs. Only thing lacking is the bore. And I get the same MPG on the road with a 340 with 3.2s so I don't see how that's far fetched at all.

Nope, they're better flowing manifolds so if they can get 'em to fit, better than the stock.

    Whats the deal with 340s?

Honestly would need about 220ish HP or so to be better than a 240Hp 340 with less stall and gear. Pick and pull charges 275 for a 318, they are in most of the trucks and Jeeps. For under 2k, shouldn't be any issue to get just at/over 300hp- prolly even more and still have a DDable ride. Torque...

318 simple bolt on setup for more horsepower

Stock 4bbl's better than the Performer- somebody listed good intakes worth moving to. If you're actually looking to make good power I wouldn't be putting other 318 heads on there. Either some later 360 heads milled down if you're not doing the pistons or move to aftermarket Magnum replacements...

    Whats the deal with 340s?

Stock they wouldn't turn much harder than an HD/HP 360 but it was a better platform to build to turn RPMs. That reminds me of hearing that 318s love to turn- even though most stock ones will be declining in power after a hair over 4000RPM. More to a motor than its size alone... Perfect answer...

    Whats the deal with 340s?

240 net on the low CR 340s, about the same as a 5.2 Magnum. The '68-'71 340s did have more power, probably at least 275 net. Old E58 was rated about the same and ran about the same in a similar weight truck as the 360 Mag. A 1971 340 ran better than a 1974 360, same with a 1971 383, a 1971...

    Air Conditioning/PS delete solution

Nope. I'm saying the opposite. I'm saying that's the reason I'd care enough to not be cobbling together a solution. On the tank, system, harness thing I'm meaning that's your injection kit. It's cheaper to install a Magnum short block if you have one. I have an LA block with the Mag sensor-...

    Air Conditioning/PS delete solution

That's probably smart. I'd only see myself doing it if I couldn't it was going in an off-highway car and high RPM stability was important but PS and A/C weren't practical to add. Last time I drove one without PS I didn't care even in the parking lot. For a beater I don't mind non-air, for...

I saw a new one recently- before the latest non-alarm I'd seen was an '04 Dakota 3.7 and pretty sure the '06 Durango 3.7 I saw didn't have it. SKIM has the thumbprint key. Yeah, you can upgrade to OBD-II later. You may even be able to keep many of your sensors, looks like there was more...

Yes, you can make it work. No- it's not a bolt on. We didn't have to mod the p/s bracket almost at all. I used my '77, or maybe '73 brackets, should be more like what yours came w/. Had to mod the alt big time. In the end we settled w/ a slight shave on the alt that could get done in minutes, a...

    cam duration

Everything smaller than the stock 340 cam I've run has had detonation issues with 9.5. The little 340 cam was in trucks and tow package cars with like 7.8:1 360s, they didn't think it was too much for those purposes. The 2bbl 318 cam won't run 87 on 9.2:1 easily.

    ? about 360 crankshaft.

It's just about a 318/340 stroker crank now. Anyway, due to the external balance being different- I could see that the weights may be the same.
