    1964 Barracuda steering coupler

What seals? I only got the orange seal that fits over the shaft and seals the coupler. Also there is a small pin in additition to the pin that goes thru the blocks. What is this pin for?

    removing steering column

I pounds that pin with a 3lb sledge and only mushroomed it. I would center drill it as large as possible, just keep using larger bits until you can tap it out. The pin comes with the coupler I believe.

    66 Dart Steering Shaft

Are you saying install the shoes and shoe spring in the coupler body? I don't think it will go over the steering shaft shoe pin. This is a Borgeson steering box with the Bergman coupler. Thanks for your time and response....

    1966 Dart Steering Column

    1. Under the hood: the steering coupler should have a roll pin securing this to the gear box. Drive this out with a suitable taper punch switching to a pin punch for total removal. [note the "V" notch on the coupler, this will coincide with the double spline on the gear box. [paint pens work...

    Very simple fix......

You make some good points here. I also have all the chassis reinforcements as you described in my Barracuda. I believe in Mopar engineering for sure, but things can be better. I cut my shaft down and made it a double d shaft, no chance for spinning here. I believe I am in good shape here and am...

    Very simple fix......

Guess you'll find out one way or another. The two piece steering shaft wasn't supposed to move like that, which is why it was held in place with those plastic "shear pins". It was only supposed to move in an accident. When I disassembled my steering column and shaft they were still intact...

Steering Column Woes and Questions - Connector, Lower Bearing, and Coupler

If you must remove the coupler you can try packing dry ice around it. It should create enough shrinkage to break the bond between the parts. Assuming the roll pin is completely out. Make sure your hands are well insulated. Why are you removing the coupler anyway? If it is that hard to move I...

    66 Dart Steering Shaft

I'm switching to the Borgeson/ Bergman kit on my '65Dart GT. When I pulled my old coupler apart it had no spring clip in it. Where does it go? Can find nothing in the FSM. I can't press the pin out of the steering shaft using my 4" vise and a socket. Guess I'll have to press it out with a...

    Steering coupler roll pin issues

Recently I converted from power to manual steering. All went well in the conversion until it was time to hammer in the roll pin, which I cannot hammer in any further than probably 1/3 of the way...I have tried 3 different pins (original size) and all seem to want to hang up on the box's input...

'75 Duster rewiring - opinions on direction?

This can sure has a ton of worms in it. Trying to put the steering column back together but it literally fell apart at the gearbox. I pulled the column out and found there was a pin missing to hold the coupler box on the steering box. Seals are all old and moldy and the bearing should be...

Steering Column Woes and Questions - Connector, Lower Bearing, and Coupler

As I am going through the various stellar efforts of previous owners, I'm finding myself a little less than enthused with the quality of a lot of the work. Any time I take something off, I have found it is a good idea to take everything off around it to inspect and repair as needed. This thing...

    66 Dart Steering Shaft

I am assuming in the car? You should take off the coupler body from the gearbox, install new parts then slide the completed steering shaft into place. Put in roll pin and done. It is splined so it only goes on one way.

72 Demon Power Steering Gearbox/Coupler Help...?

Call Flaming River industries. The factory coupler would not clear the headers on my big block Duster so I bought a nice stainless steel U-joint coupler from them. Its best to call them directly because there are variations in what came on these cars as far as parts like steering shafts etc...

    68 GT convertible project

The car originally came with power steering. I initially decided to change to manual steering because I don't like the feel of the stock box. I rebuilt the steering column with a longer manual box lower shaft/coupler. After thinking about it some more, I didn't like the idea of the increased...

70 duster with Borgeson power steering

I presently have a Flaming River Manual Box - using their coupler / u joint set up. I had an issue when I installed the coupling to my steering column and ended up braking off an easy out in the roll pin hole, so I just epoxied the hole shut and that was my pin. I don't want to replace the...

Can't uncouple the coupling. ..need help

x2 I had the same issue in removing mine. Since I had the steering column out of the car I was able to get creative. I don't remember how I did it exactly, but I was able to put something beneath the shaft of the column just above the coupler. Then I drove the dowel pin from the inside out by...

jimjimjimmy , there was a set up with the driveline also for sale on this form , just a few days ago . might still be had . driveline was converted from a flange bolting pin/ball coupler to a inline spline slider that bolted to the flange at the rear of the trans , it was a 64-65 type . not sure...

    Power Steering Box Replacement

there is really only one large roll pin that holds that coupler onto the worm drive. just get a punch (I used a nail punch) and get on the edge of the pin, and tap it all the way out. Then the fun begins when you try to pull it away from the shaft. 2 people needed. one pulling on the steering...

    Borgeson Mopar Steering Shaft Coupler

They're not the same as stock, but not that hard to adapt, either. On my '62 Valiant V8 conversion, I only had to shorten the steering shaft a little bit and weld up a hole in the shaft into which a rolled pin had gone. Just make sure you buy the correct diameter Borgeson coupler with the...

Can the bubbler steering coupler upgrade handle the heat?

If you look at the illustrations in the ebay listing that was linked you can see the roll pin needs to be nearly flush with the surface of the coupler housing.

    replacing the pin

If it's the roll pin that holds the coupler on, I get a 1/4"" punch and drive it out with a hammer. You will need someone to hold the steering wheel from turning while you do this. You can get replacements at most hardware stores in the fastener aisle. Bring the old one to match it up.
