I bought an NOS offy DQ that I messed with for a bit on the 273. I thought it may be good for the 340. NOPE! I laid 340 intake gaskets down and mocked up. Only way to use it on x heads would've been to build up the mentioned areas. Which if you're paying someone.... I posted pics of 340...

I believe 4 per side on a stock application of the hi flow 68/69 340 manifolds.

No sweat, those manifolds are pricey. Usually around $500 range, and we're used from 68-71 340's I believe. 72/3 also had them but they were different numbers. In my opinion less headache with manifolds vs headers. I'm doing same thing, 340 into our 67 cuda. Here's some glamours shots Good luck.

This is an extremely nice pair of 340 exhaust manifolds. Fully intact. No cracks or damage and very very little pitting. They were removed many years ago by original owner in favor of headers. $1250 plus actual shipping from Bolton Ct.

TTI's on my 65 Barracuda 4-speed, manual steering and manual disc brakes. Tight fit, but so were the 340 manifolds I ran previously. Added a lot to my 340; whether they are worth the trouble and expense for a stock 273 is another matter.

I went with TTIs because the 340 I finally got didn't come with exhaust manifolds at all. My choice was paying a small fortune for stock 340 manifolds or paying a small fortune for shorty headers.

I've looked at the thread about using magnum manifolds and while tempting looks like it's by no means a clean and easy fit. I ain't chasing no power but 340 manifolds look like the most reasonable thing to use. No power steering on this car

...than the later ones, casting numbers 617/618. Even the standard Magnum manifolds don't give much up to the larger bore ones or the 340 manifolds. They all will take some horsing around to get them to fit an early A (even the 340 manifolds need the column sleeve cut back) but it can be done...

i have some d truck manifolds I can try on a junk magnum head tomorrow if it helps.

...own special animal that a number of people have “been there, done that” on what the low hanging fruit would be. I personally would put exhaust manifolds down the list some. This just comes from my personal experience running 340 manifolds. Not the same animal, but under estimated just the same.

I ran it for years in my 340 Barracuda. Not terribly impressed. Just with a Wieand Action Plus, Holley 1850 and stock AVS carb, hipo manifolds, stock converter, original “advertised 10:1” pistons, 3.23 gears. All highway got about 14-16 mpg out of it going across country

TTI makes mandrel bent head pipes for the 340 manifolds that are a full 2 1/2 inches no pinches or dents and they clear everything just fine.

68-70 were the good 340 manifolds. In 71 they became much more restrictive. I doubt the 71+ 340 manifolds flow any more or less than a 360 manifold. Rule of thumb on A body header is if the steering linkage goes through them they will drag on bumps.

Did you use them on a stock magnum head? Maybe this is the answer.

the early 340 manifolds are the best ones out there. you can have them extrude honed but talking with a F.A.S.T class guy years ago he said that it made no difference. long tube headers will make more power 68-70 manifold part numbers. #2863549 #2863553

The passengers side '71 340 was more restrictive lower flowing then the '68-'70 pass side. '71 drivers side flowed as much as the earlier ones.
