Early A body hood scoop options

I thought I was the only one with this engine compartment heat problem but sounds like it’s common for these a body’s. I’m thinking maybe opening up the fender wells behind the shock mounts and running scoops over each side on the hood well help gain some extra air flow through the compartment...

    header wrap? pro's / con's

I wrapped my turbo J and exhaust pipe too. Worked great, mainly to protect the stupid spark plug wires and proximity to the master cylinder. Headers were not harmed when I took the wrap off. Also dampened the header noise under the hood.

    71 Dart 410 stroker ..

The exhaust configuration isn't familiar to me. Do the slip connections seal nicely? Is there something required there? Of course it appeals to my taste for something a little different. LOL Once I toast my cheap Summit headers with this header wrap maybe I can get (make?) something like that.

    Plug wires for FBO system

I folded over a piece of header wrap twice (three layers) and tucked it between the plug wires and that pipe and have not had a problem with the wires burning. Using 7mm silicone wires and HEI.

Best way to tackle this job?

Thanks. That was the route that I wound up taking. Didn't get to do much work until yesterday but it was for a good reason. The hospital released Dad Friday so I was helping him get settled in and trying to make sure their house was set up to accommodate him. Got the old headers out last night...

I used black header wrap to start with, then sprayed black wrap paint on them when finished, still turned white ! I wonder if mine not having rusting problems is because they were chrome to start with . I never had any of the cars running to dry the water soaked wrap, they all air dried. This...

stainless braided tranny line sprung a leak??

ATF can run pretty darn hot, then placed next to the headers and the temperature the rubber can see may be much higher than you think. I went through this using AN-10 hoses from the oil filter adapter to a remote filter. Even with a protective aluminized wrap, the hoses would eventually start...

    Changing starter

My 440/505 does the same thing when I go to restart quickly after I shut it off. I have to hit the key a second time and it comes to life so far. I have the headers wrapped, (hate that stuff), and the starter wrapped also. Thinking about unwrapping the starter, and making a heat shield type...

Which one flows better, factory 6 blade water pump or 8 blade

AJ, the picture is what my fan set up looks like. It is a seven blade fan off a 80s dodge truck. Is this a good fan? I have a Hayden 2947 thermostatic fan clutch and a new cold case radiator, and a stock 180 t stat. My shroud fits very tight and contains the whole width of the fan. It goes...

Which one flows better, factory 6 blade water pump or 8 blade

the thermostat regulates to a minimum coolant temp, unless it sticks. The maximum is governed by the ability of the designed system to get rid of heat. Stopped, at idle, with the hood closed, is usually the hardest case. Your fan is trying to create a low-pressure in the shroud. Higher pressure...

Special master cylinder for big block abody?

...in this photo. It's a 440 in my 67 barracuda. I'm using the Dr diff offset adaptor and master. Hooker fenderwells run very close, especially # 7 pipe, which runs right underneath the master. #5 pipe runs close to the front of the master also. Heat shield and header wrap is definitely required.
