Is the header keeping the pan from seating properly or just barely touching ? If it is barely touching I would heat the tube and use a wedge of some sort to gain a wee bit more clearance then wrap the tube after. If it is interfearing then it will be a lot more work.

good news is the header wrap will benefit you in more ways than just heat shielding the starter.

I have used the wrap before and found it did indeed reduce temps to the point I could grab the header right after shut down. Paint/coat the wrap to keep water out of it. This will improve the headers longevity. Constantly wet wrap is bad.

I only play to wrap the area by the starter... Jeff

If you are going to wrap it with heater hose, I would recommend using silicone heater hose... It's more expensive than the standard heater hose, but can withstand 50° more temperature... Then put a heat sleeve around it, because even silicone hose cannot withstand the full heat of a header...

I've used it many times. The header wrap company sells metal zip ties for this exact purpose.
