Please Help Me - Posting for my 70 year old grandfather

Ordered the back seat vinyl for my 72 Duster from Legendary yesterday because they had the best price on it than anyone else and they piled on a "20% OFF MANUFACTURED ITEMS" discount which made it not only quite reasonable, but I shouldn't be waiting 4-6 months for it either as I'm assuming...

    Rallye Dash Screws

If the holes are reamed out I'd be inclined to fill the hole with JB Pro Weld (or something similar) and after it sets up redrill the hole-twice, one for the threads to pass through and another as a countersink of sorts for the head.

    Have you ever lost

You would think so. This weekend marks 40 years that I've owned it and still haven't driven it. But a blocked artery a few years ago did the reverse of what I'm seeing here and lit a fire to get it done instead of tinkering with it when I have the money, space and time all at once, or just...

Making a rear divider or other interior panels

Did something similar with my Duster except I used veneer door skin ply. I wanted something capable of hanging amplifiers from. The trouble I had was the original cardboard like piece that I used for a template actually shrank over the years. Fortunately there was enough material to make 2 of...

    72 fenders worth any?

They kinda don't tho. There's a bolt on the front where the fender bolts to the firewall that is relocated on '73 and up. Not a real big deal but a dead giveaway that it's not the right fender. '72 really is one-of-a-kind. Aside from that and the aforementioned tab is the difference in side...

    Asking for Opinions

It was actually the taillights that hooked me. I was 16, it was 1980 and what did I know about compression ratios? A guy I knew just bought it and pulled up next to me and the girlfriend on a Friday night when we were out & about. With the factory white 340 stripe package and that grill I...

    Asking for Opinions

Thanks for that. If I had it to do over again I would center it between the lines on the quarter. The center panel line on the quarter dips a little under it and I could never get that straight. As it was I used the filler neck as a guide and welded it in where that best fit. It was after the...

    Asking for Opinions

I saved one off a '68 Barracuda for my '72 Duster. I also grafted the sheet metal in it to make it look more like it belongs there. It "rounded" the quarter panel a bit but it's not noticeable. And I like the idea that I can leave the car in a parking lot without someone walking off with the gas...

    PAINT REMOVAL FROM CHROME BUMPER?

For you scale modelers out there it strips paint off styrene too, without damaging the plastic. Thing is, you have to get the old school caustic stuff. Anything that says "friendly" or "safe" on the label doesn't work well at all. Of course, the caveat is gloves and a vapor mask as it will...

    Car show proposal

Used to go to Hot August Nights in Reno when I lived out that way and it always seemed like the real fun of checking out the "show" cars was actually out in the parking lots.

[Found!] In need of misc. brake parts 1972 Duster 340

Hey all, The long term project is finally coming together and as I turn to the brakes I find myself missing a couple of crucial parts. Notably- Both front stand-off brackets. The part that the brake hose mounts to on the back of the wheel. All I can find is a broken piece of one. These would...

What the heck am I doing wrong with this '74 Valiant hood?

I can see a few places where that left hinge is bent. It looks to me like someone opened the hood and forced it further open against the will of the hinges, buckling them in the arch.

You help one neighbour with their car and it snowballs.

I often get people who ask me how much I would charge them to paint their car. My outrageous I-don't-wanna-do-it standard answer is $25,000. But now that it's actually getting close to that in the shops I may have to double it :p

Windshield molding clips - 2 styles

Having just done this a couple months ago I can state with experience that- 1. The big ones go in the bottom. They should be proud of flush with the sheet metal around 1/16 to 3/32". 2. None of the aftermarket clips work in the stock locations. It seems they are all awful. I was lucky that I...

    Which Door Clips

I'm rebuilding my '72 Duster panels right now and noticed these wire style clips generally run across the top of the panel, the folded sheet metal style along the sides & bottom. Out of state right now so can't take pics but hopefully you have both styles kicking around and understand what I...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

It's something I picked up for the bike when I was working on it but it didn't fit-ended up using an LED strip on that. I had to make a bracket for this one as the one it came with was too short but it works and doesn't look too out of place. Packing for a trip but when I get back I'll get more...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

So here's the wrap-up on all this. Panels are in. The metal panels got painted and buffed a few weeks ago and they're in. Sill plates and kick panels are in and the carpet has had it's final trim: And the dash is assembled. Had a false alarm with it as it's been together before but after I...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

It'll do. Again, not show worthy but functional and cheap. I suspect the remaining wrinkles will work out over time. Black on black means it'll get plenty hot in there in the summer. (and in my best David Lee Roth impression) Uh oh- Oh yes he did! This is the good stuff. This is the plush...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

So let's restore some door panels. On my trip to Oregon a couple years ago to strip a brother 72 340/4 speed TX9 Duster for suspension parts one of the bit pieces I grabbed were the trashed door panels that were rotting away in the back seat. They were indeed trashed but they were black and...
